[Opinions] Soraya
This is the name of one of my cousins on my mom's side. Her father's family is from Iran. I think it's a really pretty name. What do you think of Soraya?

It's nice! I slightly prefer the spelling Suraya, I guess because the suggestion of "sore" bothers me a little. But it's a pretty name, yeah.

I like it but prefer it mispronounced, that is "so-RAY-uh" (because I think it's correctly pronounced "so-RYE-uh," right?)so-RAY-uh is warm and red and fuzzy, so-RYE-uh is dry and itchy (see: psoriasis)

My grandma had a samoyed named Soraya back in the 80s, so I have a vague fondness for it.It was semi-popular in Australia in the late 80s and mid 90s. I met quite a few girls named Soraya, enough that there were variants like Saraya flapping around. Most were not girls with Middle Eastern backgrounds, and the usual pronunciation was sǝ-RAY-ǝ.I don't like it enough to use it, but I do like it.

I think it is a very beautiful name, but all I can think of is "The Stoning of Soraya M" that I watched with my friend a couple of years ago. It was THE most brutal movie I've ever seen, and I haven't been able to get it out of my head ever since.

I would think it was pretty without reservations if it didn't sound so much like the beginning of psoriasis.

I think it's mysterious and pretty. I really like it.

It's beautiful, but I do think of psoriasis. That spoils it for me. I grew up on commercials talking about "the heartbreak of psoriasis," so when I see Soraya, the phrase "the heartbreak of Soraya" keeps running through my mind. I have the same problem with Milena, in that I think of melena (dark, sticky, blood-filled feces). Once I relate a name with some icky medical problem, it's all I see.

Oh no... I love this name but I didn't even think of that :/

It sounds to me like someone named Aya is sore. That and psoriasis. Sorry I couldn't be more positive.

Very pretty! I like how it's related to stars. Interesting, but not as outright 'stars' as Stella.
But the might be some jokes about 'Soraya Sis.'
