I love it, it's one of my absolute favourites! And yes, I do think of Lyra Belacqua, and yes, she's an awesome, strong character. If you give your daughter this name, it'll be the BEST association ever! I love the kind of unknown meaning, too.

I love Lyra, but I pronounce it like LEER-ah. I say the "lyr" as you would in the word "lyric."

With the LYE-rah pronunciation, it seems as little harsh to say and is all cutting edge with no tenderness at all so I'm not feeling it unless you're naming a video game character.

I love this name!
I don't immediately think of Lyra from HDM, alyhough the association is definitely there. I'd totally be willing to name a kid after her though :P I like fantasy-type names in general. Lyra is unusual, but very usable because it's short, simple, and easy to spell.

I don't particularly care for Lyra but I don't see anything beyond a 10 year old girl with twin tails from Pokemon.

I think it's really pretty. The character is my first thought, but that's not really a big deal.
