[Opinions] Carys or Charis?
Replies
Carys is my preferred spelling and I think it's a lovely name.
Charis! I recently heard this name and I love it. :)
I prefer Carys, but both are lovely. I used them a lot as mns in my stock combos. It depends on the feeling I want. Carys has a care-free, natural feeling. Charis has a more timeless, almost religious feeling.
I pronounce them the same way, "CARE-is / KEHR-is," although sometimes I do say, "CA-ris."

I say it like "CAH-riss", with a short a like in the word "land". I like it spelled Carys because the pronunciation is most logical. Charis looks like it should be pronounced with a "ch" sound.
I also like Cerys, although I pronounce it differently, the first syllable being like the beginning of the name Kerry.
my niece is called Abby Cerys.

Charis is pronounced HAH-ris in Greek, as far as I know. So there's not even a K-sound. I like the look of Charis better but I dislike the Greek pronunciation and in English people might pronounce it KAIR-is which I like, but they might also say SHAH-reez or something like that which is awful. I also don't feel comfortable not using the Greek pronunciation as it is the original one and the name isn't well established in the English language like Phoebe or something.
So I'd pick Carys. The meaning is nice and it is definitely pronounced with a K-sound.

Carys and I like the pronunciation CAH-riss which is how I pronounce it. Lovely name by the way.
