I pronounce
Circe as SIR-see, which is the anglicized pronunciation. If I were in Greece I would use
Kirke (pronounced KEER-kuh), but I feel like if I used it in the states she would get called
Kirk all the time and mistaken for a man on paperwork.
Aside from pronunciation issues, my main concern for
Circe is whether it's usable at all.
Circe from mythology is seen as a wicked temptress (like
Eve, but pagan and magical), in both literature and popular culture. Plus, with the "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series (and the TV adaptation "Game of Thrones") we have Cersei Lannister, who is... a crazy b*tch.
So... what do people think of
Circe as a name? My current combo is
Circe Eloise, but I'm open to other suggestions.
