Tonin is a variant of Italian Tonini whose origin you'll find at http://www.ancestry.com/name-origin?surname=tonini. The surname is also Slovenian but I don't know if it has the same origin.

This surname comes probably from Venice area. Mianly near the cities of Vicenza or Treviso.
It comes from the venetian first name Toni, in Italian Antonio. Il in is a suffix for the diminutive form
