[Opinions] BAs where I live
Was looking at recent births in my area (Austin, Texas) on growingfamily.com
.
These were (to me) surprisingly as frequent as any top ten names, at the hospital where I'm supposed to give birth:Mia
Ella
Hunter
James
Julia / Juliana
Caroline / a
Alec
Viviana
Vincent
Jaylen & variantsOnes I saw and thought were remarkable for some reason:
Demostenes
Desmond
Attoria
Azalia
Lucian
Theo
Gia
Martha
Valencia
Bianca
Mariel
Olive
Mercy
Lilith
Ixiamarie
Mecka
Gentry
Om
Marquis
Da'CourtlandI'm posting this mostly because it's a speck of information about usage, but also because I wonder if anyone else is surprised at the popularity of the names on my first list? I was not expecting to see five Mias in 3 months at 2 hospitals, nor Hunters, for example... yet not a single Hannah, Jessica, Chloe, or Andrew.Has anyone else seen names that aren't in top 20 showing up really frequently where they live?

Mia surprises me a little but it's not out of the blue, either, imo. Alec I haven't seen much at all lately. Vincent surprises me a bit, but I love it. :) Viviana is quite surprising, actually. The others are also popular where I live atm (esp. Jaylen, et al, for both sexes...ugh), so no biggie. :b Of the 'remarkable' names -
Good:
Desmond
Azalia - Azalea, like the flower, would be pretty
Lucian
Theo - prefer as a nn for Theodore
Martha
Mariel
Olive
Mercy
Lilith
GentryBad and/or Ugly:
Demostenes
Ixiamarie
Mecka
Om

I work in an NICU, so I get to see the up-and-coming names for our city all the time. Yay for me. LOL! :b Over the last two years, the names I've seen the most that do surprise me--well, at least a tiny bit, because most have just SHOT UP in popularity....
Caleb / Kaleb
Mason
Logan
Ethan
Christian
Isaiah
Jayden / Jaden, etc.
Carson
Caiden, etc. Kaitlyn with every spelling under the sun (I'm only surprised that it's STILL so popular where I live)
Jalen / Jaylon / Jailyn, etc. + Jayla
Reagan / Raegan

Yeah, I wasw surprised to see a Catelyn and a Kayla too. What an unfortunately short fad that was - all those poor girls will be so dated.Ethan was all over the place too, and Caden & versions. Reagan: ugh. Didn't see any of those. I wonder why there seem to be such local trends? It can't be that all the parents know each other.. it must just be those "chaotic patterns" :-)Thanks- chazda

We took a few names off our list when I was PG and browsed the birth announcements - both Luke and Max were in the top 10 in our area, much to my surprise. Just as popular as Aidan and Alexander and Jack/Jackson. There were also a ton of Jadens/Cadens/Braydens/etc and Landons and Logans, but those weren't so much of a surprise.

I notice Hugo and Amelia showing up more than I'd expect on birth announcements here. Hugo isn't in the top 100, Amelia's at 99.Image hosted by Photobucket.com
