Honestly, I think it has less to do with not preferring to be called Chris / Kris and more to do with the fact that those names were quite common in the 70s and 80s. People are just moving on to new common names. :-) Actually, I've known a few women named Christine or Christina or Kristen who've gone by Chris or Kris, however, most people I've known named Chris were male (Christopher, Christian).

Definitely. Christopher became the second most popular boy's name during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Most guys thought that Christopher was too long and went by Chris as a result.
