I hear it as more like Sirren. A schoolfriend of mine had a Scandinavian boyfriend and that was how she pronounced it, but we were all about 15 at the time so it might well be ... not quite right! I rather liked it at the time; pleasantly exotic.

Actually, Sirren is more right than Soren (if you want the "correct" Scandinavian pronuciation that is).
The ø/ö in Søren/Sören is very close or even identical to the vowel sound in sir.
