[Opinions] Lumen
What do we think of Lumen? I recently heard it on Dexter but it's not a name I've heard of before. I know it has a few meanings in science: it's a unit of light intensity and a biology term to do with blood vessels. I couldn't find any meaning for it as a name.**Emma**

I'm not liking it and for some reason I can't exactly pin down...

Believe it or not, Lumen actually was in use as a girls' name in my neck of the woods. Back in the 1500s and 1600s ;)
It's one of those "liud-" = "people" names, in a very contracted, a bit "mangled" form.
I knew that it was also the Latin word for "light", and I always thought that is kind of nice. And I had no idea that it also referred to intestines - but for some reason it always reminded me of the word hymen. Um, yeah :/
However, I do like its variant Lumina.
(And I have no idea if that has something to do with body parts or not. Guess I'll google that one now ;) )

In theory it sounds nice but I can't get over 'loo men'. Eh...

It means "light" in Latin.I kind of liked it, I think it sounds very pretty (Luna is one of my absolute favourite names) but now that I've read the comments, it's a little bit ruined for me.

I wouldn't name a child something that refers to this:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lumen_%28anatomy%29

I think it's kind of ridiculous, yet not really ugly. Just strange. I know one Lumen whose full name is Lumen Ever, which definitely makes me think of light. For the record, Lumen's sister is Pepper. Good times.

It means the inside of a tube. Including the inside of the intestine. I immediately think of contents of the lumen ... a tidy sounding phrase for the sludge inside the digestive tract.I think of that before I ever think of light. So for me it's not a name, and can never be one.

Same. That is what I thought of immediately too.

oh dear!I was going to say it was unusual, but I didn't really mind it (apart from associating it with that - annoying - Dexter character), but the INTESTINE? No thank you!

I thought it was something to do with the lungs.
I don't like it.

I looked it up when I was watching Dexter also and couldn't find any use of it as a name.
Actually just checked the SSA data now and it appeared with like 14 girls with the name in 2011, and then again in 2012. Pretty sure everyone was inspired by Dexter. I kind of like the sound but not enough to use or put on a list or anything.
