[Opinions] Valdemar
Replies
I know of two (Swedish) young boys named Valdemar - one has it as his middle name and the other as his first name. I really like it.
First thought was "royalty" and then that it's somewhat similar to Balthazar which I enjoy. "Villain" sneaked in after that, though, because the name is also similar to Valdemort and, just for fun, Baltar sidekicked since Balthazar had already come up. Easy enough for me to squash down the villain association so, yes, I think Valdemar is a handsome name. :)
Sounds like a great name for a vampire. That's all I have to say. I wouldn't use it.
I feel like I would like it but to me it sounds too much like Voldemort... Sorry!
Actually.. When my friend first told me about it I heard Voldemort as well (we speak English). I may have exclaimed an unflattering 'Voldermort?!'
But it sounds different in Danish and like I said, I do really like it now.

I haven't encountered it before, but I think I really adore Valdemar. I couldn't use it myself, but it's very attractive.
I like it a lot. My BF absolutely love it. If we ever have a son together his first name will probably be Valdemar. I like the combo Valdemar Nils (both our paternal grandfathers were namned Nils).
Valdemar has felt dated for a long time but little Valdemars are starting to pop up here and there ( at least in Sweden). It's growing on me.
