Help[Opinions] Josephine? (and some others)
I hate to go all mainstream on you guys--I feel like I'm losing my touch--but how do y'all feel about Josephine? I've started to like it more and more lately, and since I've cooled on Friedrich, it'd be a possibility. (The Array rule of thumb is no romantic couples for siblings, so having both a Friedrich and a Josephine has never been an option.) As you can probably guess, the name would be for Miss March. :)
And speaking of beloved book characters, how do you feel about these? They'd all be in honour of one book character or another.

I had a Josephine phase, and I still like it but not as much anymore, mostly because it's biblical and I try and stay away from those names. But because of Jo March, it's cool :)
Like I said before, I love Karana.
I hate the name Laura. I like Lottie, I think it's cute and little Lottie from A Little Princess was cute. Nymphadora tho... honestly I could never do it but she was a cool charachter. Thursday's cool. I also like Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday "Sunny".
I think Dicken is cute. But the others I don't like. Nathaniel, I cant stand at all.

Karana -Very pretty, but a little...maybe fluffy? I don't know. It doesn't have much substance.
Laura -Very nice, but I prefer Lara (LAHR-ah) and Laurel.

I like Josephine. It's pretty but not awfully saccharine. I also like Josefa, too, though that doesn't have the literary connection you're going for.
Of course, Joseph-related names in my family are considered cursed. :-/ So the women in my extended family would be in an uproar if I considered it.

Josephine is a gorgeous name! It's not incredibly mainstream either - I only know one Josephine and she's a year younger than me. She goes by Josie most of the time and she's a model and super-nice so I have really positive connotations with the name. It's a beautiful, classic name.
Josie and the Pussycats isn't really popular anymore so any relation to them would be rare, imo.
As for the rest - I was going to use Lotty as a nn for Charlotte too! I love ever since I heard it somewhere (can't remember where lol) and it's perfect instead of "Char" which I just can't stand.
The rest I'm not personally a fan of...aside from maybe Dickin and there's a reason Nymphadora goes by Tonks ;-)

Gilbert as in Gilbert Blythe? Great choice. I love the name Gilbert with the cool nn Gil.

Dicken sounds awkward, since his last name was Dickens. I think Dickens could be a cool mn to honor that author but wouldn't use it as a first name. (Also, his friends might give him the nn of Dick).

You know, I've never read the Secret Garden, but was just reading "A Little Princess" to my daughter. I'll have to put that one on my To-Read List!

I like Josephine. It has such cute nickname potential, like Josie and the especially darling, Posey.
Fern is beautiful. I like it because it's so nature-y yet so classical. My favourite combo involving Fern is Rhiannon Fern.
Karana is something that could grow on me.
Laura is a bit blah. I would like it as a middle name so much more than a first name.
Lottie is precious, however I'd only use it as a nickname for Charlotte. Interestingly enough, I know a three year-old girl named Charlottie (char-LOT-ee).
Nymphadora Tonks isn't my favourite character in the Harry Potter series. (That status belongs to her Aunt Bellatrix, lol.) But independently of my feelings about the character, I'm not crazy about Nymphadora. I'm kind of intrigued by Adora, though.
Thursday reminds me of the old rhyme:
Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go,
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living,
But the child that's born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny, blithe, good and gay.
Not a good connotation for me, but I admit to finding some day names curiously appealing.
As for Almanzo, I think of Almanzo Wilder from the Little House books. Good association, but I'm not wild about the name.
Dicken... from 'Secret Garden', right? The character was adorable, but Dicken can be made to sound like something perverse if the name was picked apart in just the right way. :(
Gilbert is cute, but my attention-craving cat is named Gilbert and so I might be biased against using the name (especially when he wakes me up at two in the morning just to play, lol). :)
Jonas is an ok name. Definitely not popular or commonplace, so it's appealing.
Nathaniel is a great name. I'd certainly consider this name for a future son, though I think I'd be more apt to use it as a middle name.
Ramo is a name that I just can't like. It reminds me too much of Ramen noodles and Rambo.

My mum picks out strange nicknames for all of her children. Mine just so happens to be Josephine. She calls me Josephine just to annoy me. That is the one and only reason that I absolutely HATE this name. She calls me Josie sometimes too, which is okay.

Karana - Is this pronounced kuh-RAH-nuh? Interesting, if a bit too much in the Karen/Karina/Karenna mold.
