[Opinions] Sharlie / Charlene
Was just thinking about how I sort of like the sound of Sharlie and that it is actually a mush of two family names, Shirley and Charles. Charlene is ok too but doesn't feel like it holds the same sort of connection. What do you think? It is usable? It's most likely MN material_______________________________________

I like Sharlie, it's cute. Not a bad middle name.

I don't like Sharlie, but I'm oddly very fond of Charlene (prefer Charline).

That's a neat way to honour, I think. I don't love the sound, but it you do then that's what matters. Is might be confusing as a first name (mainly because it is close to other more common names), but as a middle names it is totally fine.

Charlene is so dated and dull. I prefer Sharlie, especially since it's easier to see the "Shirley+Charlie" connection. As a middle name, I think it's usable. I wouldn't like it as a first name, but just about anything goes in the middle. You could also just use Charley (Char- from Charles plus the -ley from Shirley). It may not be an obvious name smush from the outside, but you and your family would understand the meaning behind it, and that's what really matters.

I like Charlene, it's my MIL's first name. Not crazy about Sharlie though, it sounds like a snooty waiter at a snooty French restaurant who's trying to sound like he's an actual Frenchman.
