I am trying to find any informtation on my family name Hand. All I know is my 3x great grandfather, James Hand came from County Monaghan, Ireland. I cannot find any other info on his life or family before coming to America in the 1850s. He lived in Iowa until he died in 1890. Every site I try to search doesn't have Hand listed in their database. Does anyone have any info that could help? I'm wondering if the surname was changed to Hand because he worked with his hands?
