[Opinions] Dorothy
I can't make up my mind on Dorothy - I want to like it but I'm not sold on the -thy sound. What do you think?
Any names with the same feel as Dorothy?
Any combos?
Thanks!

It's alright. Not a fave, I guess because it feels a little matronly to me still. But on a younger person I think it'd be nice.
I'm not a fan of Dot and Dodie. They really do sound frowsy to me still. Dory though... seems nifty.
I think the -thy sound is one of the appealing things about Dorothy. I like how it's a classic name that is totally English-ized (I know Anglicized is a word but it's not the one I want right now).
I agree that Marjorie has a similar feel.
Also Audrey, Edith, Helen, Frances, Theresa, Jean, Ursula
I want to give it flowers:
Dorothy Rosanna
Dorothy Azalea
Dorothy Jasmine
I want to update it too:
Dorothy Melissa
Dorothy Alexis
Dorothy Skye
Dorothy Fiona
or give it more air and mystique:
Dorothy Inanna
Dorothy Jezebel
Dorothy Demetria

The nns Dodie and Dottie / Dot and to some extent Dory have endeared the name to me. I was hoping the royal baby would have Dorothea as a middle name, for Kate's grandmother. Nn Thea? Ah well, no one listens to me. :0P

I've warmed to it recently- my way of dealing with sounds I don't like is skimping on them, kind of mispronouncing them, often. For instance, I usually pronounce Angelique kind of, arn-ye-lee, with only a slight 'k' at the end, and missing out the 'zh' sound altogether. I do the same thing with Dorothy, so it comes out somewhere between 'dorayee' and 'doratee'. I like the nicknames Dot, Tia and Dora.

I like Talitha but I'm not sure if it would be useable since it's my friend's sister's name. Likewise, Alice, Caroline and Eleanor are also out. But thanks for the suggestions!
I can't like Dorothy. Terminally dowdy.
I am immensely fond of Dorothy, and lately I've been considering putting Dorothy "Dodie" on my short list. I also wonder how Dorothy "Daisy" might work. I like Dorothea, too, as well as most of its international variants, having been looking at Dorotėja in particular last night.
As for combinations, I'm liking Dorothy Lark, and Dorothy Camille to a lesser extent.
