[Opinions] Re: French name combo?
I found one reference on the Web to an ancient Greek author supposedly named Melisander:http://www.ancientlibrary.com/smith-bio/2130.htmlI think you should post a query about this on the Name Facts board to see if any of the experts on Greek names who post there can confirm that this man existed and if his Greek name really would be rendered as "Melisander" in English, and what it would mean in ancient Greek. It seems to me from the cursory bit of research I have just done that the original French form of the ancient Germanic name with became Millicent in English was Melisende, and that name may have become confused with names like Alexander and Cassandra which resulted in Melisande and Melisandre becoming popular forms of the name during medieval times.
