[Games] Astronomicon's Adoption Congrats | Round 1
Hi guys! Here's the first round of the Congrats. I am still accepting sign-ups, just stick 'sign up' in the subject line of your reply and the completed form from the sign-up post in the body of your message. Some of you have single kids, some have twins, some have pets... basically, it's a mix of stuff. I've also tried to create a mix of namebanks (15 names each) and rules for this round. If you want to write a little bit about the family, feel free - but you don't have to if you don't want to!If you have any feedback, questions or problems, just let me know. I hope you have fun! :)EDIT: Also, for future rounds, could you let me know if you want your children to have more than one middle name, a mix of number of middle names or whatever? If you just want one middle name, no need to answer this question. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sign-up: http://www.behindthename.com/bb/game/4630543

DH1: Castor Jacobus Tholberg
DH2: Cormac Griffith "Mac" Matheson
Location: New York City--DS: [15] [New York, NY]Castor and Mac have decided to adopt an older child from a local charity. Their new son is fifteen and from New York. He has epilepsy, but it’s not particularly common for him to have seizures and he has responded well to anti-convulsive medicine, so it’s not a major issue. He’s very bright and has skipped ahead several years in school and has dreams of becoming a doctor. He gets on really well with his new dads. His first name is a name used in a Shakespearian play which is also used in real life and begins in a vowel. His middle name comes from the following namebank:MN: Alistair, Aloysius, Atlas, Balthazar, Boaz, Caspian, Finnian, Harris, Horatio, Ignatius, Odysseus, Ozias, Sylvester, Valentine, Wolfgang--------------------------------------------Daffodilla
DH: Jackson Giovanni Bates [25]
DW: Annabeth "Beth" Maureen Bates [24]
Location: Seattle, Washington-DD: [3][Lecce, Italy]Jackson and Annabeth have adopted a little girl. Their adopted daughter is 3 years old and from Lecce in Italy. She was raised by her grandmother who recently passed away leaving her with no family willing to house her. She’s shy and quiet and doesn’t speak very much English, but she’s slowly starting to settle into the Bates family. Her first name is Italian and comes from this list - http://www.behindthename.com/top/lists/italy/2013. Jackson and Beth have decided to pick her middle name themselves as her old one was very old fashioned and uninteresting. They’ve decided on a Biblical name which isn’t currently in the top 100 in the US.

DW: Michaela Lenore Gunn (nee Hardin) “Mike”
DH: Hunter Ricardo Gunn
Location: Venice, Italy--DS: [4][ Reggio di Calabria, Italy]Mike and Hunter have adopted a four year old boy from Reggio di Calabria. Their new son is of Greek-Italian heritage which is reflected in his name. Speaking of which, they’ve been fortunate in that they really like both of his names and feel no need to change them. His first name is an uncommon Italian name which may have a convenient nickname if you so desire. It doesn’t figure on this list - http://www.behindthename.com/top/lists/italy/2013. His middle name is Greek. Mike and Hunter thought about changing it but decided it was part of his identity and they liked its interesting, unusual meaning. --------------------------------------------Eris
SO1: Edward Julian Alexander Reed [28]
SO2: Saskia Rose Everhart [29]
Location: UK-DD: [1][Teyateyaneng, Lesotho]-Cat: [3]Edward and Saskia have adopted a little girl from Lesotho. And a cat. Their adoptive daughter is ethnically Zulu and from the town of Teyateyaneng. She’s quite a noisy baby but apart from that she’s perfectly fine. Their cat is a sweet-tempered three-year old black and white female from a local rescue shelter.DD’s birth name is Zulu and comes from the following name bank. It’s up to you whether Edward and Saskia keep it as a first name or use it as a middle name. Whatever you choose, the other name should come from the 300-400 rankings on this popularity list - http://www.behindthename.com/top/lists/england-wales/2013.Zulu namebank: Funani, Ifu, Inyoni, Isisa, Khethiwe, Lindiwe, Liyana, Mbali, Mhambi, Nandi, Nomvula, Sizani, Thabisa, Themba, ThulaThe cat’s name is completely your choice, but makes reference to her distinctive black and white patterning. --------------------------------------------Feorsteorra
DH1: Romolo Hadrian "Rome" (Brocklehurst) Brocklehurst-Pandev
DH2: Joakim Roland "Jack" (Pandev) Brocklehurst-Pandev
Location: British Colombia, Canada-DD: [12][Gatineau, BC]Rome and Jack have adopted an older child. Their new daughter has just turned 12 and is from Gatineau. She comes from a French-Canadian background but is about ¼ Haida and speaks both French and English fluently, with a slight preference towards French. She’s been in care since she was 7 and is quite rebellious and wayward, but she’s taken a liking to her adoptive parents and wants to impress them. Her first name is French and neither super rare or super uncommon. Her middle name isn’t necessarily French (it can be if you want) and begins with X, V or Y. She’s started taking an interest in sci-fi and picked up a nickname after a character in a sci-fi film or tv show – it could be one that suits her name or her personality.

DH: Logan Matthew Cooke (34)
DW: Rowena Diane [Moore] Cooke (29)
Location: San Diego, CA-DS: [nb][San Francisco, CA]-Dog: [1]Logan and Rowena have adopted a baby boy. He’s only a few months old and comes from San Francisco. He’s of mixed African American and Hispanic origin but not much else is known about his background. Because of that and because he’s so young, Logan and Rowena have free run with naming him. They’ve decided to give him a very unusual biblical first name, and his middle name should come from the famous book one of them was reading when they found out the adoption went through (the book should be well known, but it’s ultimately your choice which one it is). They’ve also adopted a young dog. He’s a golden retriever cross and is very friendly if a little bit dumb. They’ve named him after a comic-book superhero.--------------------------------------------

DH: Émilien Aurelian Otto du Pont [28]
DW: Alethea Joséphine du Pont, née Devereux [28]
Location: Vence, France-DS: [2] [Ufa, Russia]Émilien and Althea have adopted a little boy from Russia. He’s nearly three years old and was born in Ufa in the federal republic of Bashkortostan. He is partially deaf, and it’s still to be decided whether cochlear implants are advisable – but he otherwise seems to be a bright, happy young boy. He doesn’t speak any French, but being so young he’s picking it up quickly. His birth name was a very common Russian given name. The du Ponts have kept it as a middle name, and given him a new first name which is an uncommon French version of an Ancient Greek name (http://www.behindthename.com/submit/names/usage/french has lots of choices). If he has two middle names, one is his birth name, the other is a long-established French name which doesn’t feature on the top 500 lists and doesn’t begin with a vowel.--------------------------------------------Jakkson
DH: Seth Gawain Greyback
DW: Lucy Gem (brown) Greyback
Location: London, UK--DD/DD: [5][Shantou, China]Seth and Lucy have adopted twin girls from Shantou in China. Since the orphanage the girls were adopted from works closely with a British charity, the girls already speak some English, although it isn’t perfect. The eldest daughter is called Hua-Lan and the younger twin is called Mei-Lan, but Seth and Lucy have already decided to change the girls’ names – they are too difficult for English people to say right, themselves included. The girls, however, have been allowed to have a say in what they want their new English names to be.
Hua means ‘flower’ and ‘Lan’ means ‘orchid’, so Hua-Lan wants her new name to be a flower name.
Mei-Lan, however, wants her new name to begin with M, include the letter ‘l’, and doesn’t care about the meaning. Their middle names should be Welsh and have a themed or similar meaning to each other.
--------------------------------------------Jessamine
DH: Ciaran Shea McCarthy
DW: Margaret Lynne {Franklin} McCarthy "Meg"
Location: Manhattan, New York, New York--DD: [1] [New York, NY]Ciaran and Meg have adopted from their hometown. Their daughter comes from a very conservative, Catholic Irish family and her pregnant teenage mother gave her up for adoption when she was born. Because she has some minor motor problems, she has taken a while to be adopted – however, the McCarthys have been told that her problems can be easily treated with time and patience. They’ve decided to give her an anglicised Irish first name. While not as pretty as the original names, anglicisation will ensure that people can pronounce it. Her middle name is a traditional, feminine name which is at least seven letters long.

SO1: Matthew Isaiah
SO2: Audrey Noelle
Location: New Hampshire, USA-DS/DS: [4][Xai-Xai, Mozambique]Matthew and Audrey have adopted twin boys! The twins are four years old and come from Xai-Xai in Mozambique. Their family was quite Christian, so although the twins aren’t strongly Christian they have Biblical names which have translated over to American/English culture/language well. Matthew and Audrey like the names, and coupled with the twins’ age, have decided to keep them. The twins don’t have middle names, so Matthew and Audrey decided to give them some. The names they picked came from the following namebank: MN: Alexander, Anthony, Charles, Christopher, Daniel, Edward, Francis, Frederick, Henry, Julian, Leo, Robert, Stephen, Theodore, Zachary--------------------------------------------Kissinger_Hollings45
SO1: Maurice Colton 'Mo' Saunders
SO2: Prudence Dorothea 'Prue' Conrad-Saunders
Location: Seattle, WA-DD: [2] [Yakima, WA]Mo and Prue have adopted their first daughter! She’s two years old and from Yakima, WA. Her birth name was a Spanish version of a classic, somewhat old-fashioned English name which Maurice and Prudence both like. They’ve decided to change her name to the English version. They’ve decided to pick her middle name(s) from the following namebank:MN: Ada, Adelaide, Clara, Cora, Edith, Evelyn, Florence, Hazel, Josephine, June, Lillian, Mabel, Nora(h), Pearl, Vera --------------------------------------------Megan_donuts
SO1: Cameron Alistair Mackenzie
SO2: Beverly Marina Mackenzie (Johnson)
Location: Seattle, Washington, USA-DD: [nb][Post Falls, ID]Cameron and Beverly have adopted a baby girl. Her mother is a single parent who already had several children and didn’t want another one to look after, so put her up for adoption. The Mackenzies’ new daughter is of Scottish/German origin and was born in Post Falls, Idaho. Cameron and Beverly have picked her first name from the namebank below. Her middle name is Scottish and begins with a vowel.FN namebank: Antonia, Bernadette, Cleo, Constance, Dinah, Flora, Henrietta, Jemima, Margo, Marian, May, Ramona, Rosalind, Roxanne, Theodora
--------------------------------------------Ninor
DH: Lucas Ignatius Farewell
DW: Isabelle Salome (Jackson) Farewell
Location: Lansing, Michigan--DS: [1][ Srinagar, India]--Bunny: [2]Lucas and Isabelle have adopted their first child – a baby boy from Srinagar in India. He’s a very quiet baby, so they were worried he might be unwell, but as it turns out he’s perfectly healthy just not the kind to make a fuss. His birth name is simple, easy to say and sounds cool to Anglophone ears, so they’ve either kept it as his first name or made it his middle name. His other name comes from the following namebank:Namebank: Amaias, Balthazar, Breccan, Casper, Cosimo, Isidore, Kit, Lorcan, Malachy, Ozias, Rufus, Stellan, Tiberius, Tobiah, ZebulonThey’ve also adopted a bunny. She’s a light brown Holland lop. They would like for her to have a flower or plant name.--------------------------------------------Quill
SO1: Sigrún Eydís {Olvirsdóttir}
SO2: Amin Noor Na'im Saqqaf
Location: London--DD: [10][ Khamis Mushait, Saudi Arabia]Sigrún and Amin have adopted their first child, a ten year old girl from Saudi Arabia. She comes from Khamis Mushait, is muslim, and speaks some very basic English. Her parents are teaching her English but it’s certainly more helpful at this point that they speak Arabic. Her first name is a medium-length Arabic name which would sound pretty yet exotic to Anglophone ears. It’s not a name you’d hear often outside of Arabic speaking communities, and hasn’t yet moved out of being very ethnically distinct. She doesn’t have a middle name so they’re picking one for her – she’d like it to have a happy, positive meaning whilst Sigrún and Amin would like it to be androgynous and unisex.

SO1: Feodosia Avandeyeva
SO2: Evgeniy Vasilevsky "Zhenya"
SO3: Alexander Silvio Stolojan "Silvio"
Location: London and NYC mostly-DS/DD: [5][ České Budějovice, Czech Republic]Feodosia, Zhenya and Silvio have adopted twins! The five year old boy and girl come from České Budějovice in the Czech Republic and were orphaned several years ago with no living relatives. The boy has some mild learning problems and they both obviously miss their parents a great deal. Hopefully their new family can help. Their new parents have decided to keep their adopted children’s first names, which are both Czech and begin with the same letter. They have no middle names, so their new parents have decided to give them one – they picked out a Russian MN for DS, and Silvio suggested a Romanian MN for DD.--------------------------------------------SofiaSweden
DH: James Philip Meyer
DW: Annika Elsie Meyer
Location: Seattle, Washington, USA-DS: [nb][Maardu, Estonia]-Cat: James and Annika’s new arrival is a baby boy from Estonia. Their new son is 7 months old and ethnically Russian/Estonian. They don’t like his birth name at all, so have decided to change it. Names they are considering for his first name are in the namebank below. For his middle name they’ve decided to honour his heritage and Annika’s literary backgound by naming him after a famous Estonian or Russian author or poet. Of course, they’re also considering the fact that they want his name to work in the US as well. They’ve also adopted a kitten that their son can grow up with. Their kitten is a plain old moggy, a ginger boy. He is named either after an iconic, famous author or a very famous, iconic literary character.FN namebank: Alfred, Andreas, Anton, Elias, Erik, Finn, Hugo, Johan, Kasper, Leo, Magnus, Mathias / Matthias, Roland, Sebastian, Tobias--------------------------------------------ValerieK
DH: Dorian Francis Savatier
DW: Cosette Rachel {Dufort} Savatier
Location: Montreal, Quebec, Canada--DD: [16][Montreal, Canada]
---DS: [exp]Dorian and Cosette were planning to adopt, but didn’t expect two at once. Their new daughter is pregnant! Of course, they knew this when they adopted her, and her difficult situation may have been part of the reason they accepted her into their home. DD has been in the system since she was 11, when her parents divorced and her mother became unable to provide a stable home. She’s had a tough life and is a bit rough around the edges, but she really wants to make a good life for herself and her unborn child. Although she used to be pretty wild, her new responsibilities have calmed her down and she has started to bond quite strongly with her adoptive parents. Her first name is a classic French name which is quite common and her middle name is a modern name which has only started to be used frequently in the last decade. She’s decided on her son’s middle name but wants Dorian and Cosette to have the honour of picking his first name. His middle name is a short, modern sounding name from this list - http://www.behindthename.com/top/lists/france/2010. Dorian and Cosette want his first name to honour an inspirational historical figure.--------------------------------------------....Phew. Hope you enjoy!

DH: [38] David Alexander Adams "Alex"
DW: [37] Norah Grace Adams
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Pick 3-6 words to describe their naming style: international, unusual literary/mythology, but still classy
Additional info: Alex is originally from Chicago, and Norah is Colorado. Alex was drawn to adventure in CO after a childhood trip, so he decided to go to a university there and study journalism. There, he met Norah, a fellow aspiring journalist. They fell in love, and after they got married, spent several years traveling the world together. They moved back to Chicago where they currently live in a small apartment downtown. Now, they are ready to start a family. Once their family expands, they are planning on moving to a bigger house in the suburbs and they'd love to travel more in the future, but for now, they are settling down in Chicago. Alex is fluent in both Spanish and Italian, while Norah can speak German, some Spanish, some Portuguese, and some Arabic. They are both Protestant Christians and plan to raise their children in the religion. Adoption information
1) What age ranges do they want the children to be? Preferably younger, but are considering older children and pregnant teens.
2) Whereabouts in the world do they want to adopt from? Anywhere
3) Would they adopt multiples (twins/triplets/etc)? Sure
4) Would they adopt children with health issues? Yes, but only mild issues
5) Is religion/language important? Would they adopt children who don't currently speak their language? If they hold a particular religious belief (or are atheist/secular), would they adopt children from outside that background? Religion and language are not important, but they will raise their children as Christians
6) Are they hoping to have their own biological children? They are hoping, but are not sure if it will actually happen
7) Do they have a preference of gender? No
8) Other considerations: Optional. Any other information which doesn't fit above - would they like to foster as well as / rather than adopt? Would they foster/adopt pregnant teens? Are they fond of any humanitarian causes which might influence how they adopt? They would like only to adopt, and aren't completely sure if they'd like pregnant teens, but they are warming up to the idea. They can also adopt pets. Would they like to adopt a pet? How many, and what species do they prefer? No pets

Location: London and NYC mostly-DS/DD: Marián Alexei & Matylda Constanța [5][ České Budějovice, Czech Republic]Feodosia, Zhenya, and Silvio adopted five-year-old Marián and Matylda from České Budějovice, Czech Republic. It took about a week for them to warm up, but Feodosia felt like she had won the greatest prize when a sleepy Matylda curled beside her on the sofa an fell asleep with her head leaning against her shoulder. Marián didn't say anything when he saw his sister. He just climbed up on the other side of her and fell asleep with his head leaning against hers. It took a while of Feodosia marveling at them sleeping but eventually, she fell asleep too."Zhenya," Silvio whispered an hour or so later when they arrived home. "Look at this." Zhenya stepped into the den to see them and then both boys immediately pulled out their phones to get pictures."I kind of want to do to the dad thing where you pick up your kids and take them to bed, but we would scare them if they woke up," Zhenya lamented quietly."We'll wake them up gently and then we can probably carry them there if they are alert enough to understand what's happening. Give it time. Maybe next time they'll be comfortable enough with you that you can just pick them up.""Next time," Zhenya mused out loud with a smile. You can mix up middle name styles any way you want. Because they're adopted, the names don't have to "match" or anything.

Amerigo keeps his parents on their toes, always tearing around the house. After only a few weeks, he was enrolled in a children’s soccer class, which he loves dearly. For the middle name question, a mixed number of middle names would be great, if it's not too much trouble. :)

SO2: Jocelyn MargotLocation: London, UK--DS: [4][Manchester, UK]--Horse: [5]Albert and Jocelyn have adopted a little boy from Manchester! Their new son is four years old and half-Scottish. He was born with a congential heart defect, and despite improving greatly following surgery when he was a baby he still has a minor heart murmur. They need to be vigilent, but doctors don't think it'll be a problem and he should live a pretty normal life. His first name is from a famous children's book. His middle name is Scottish and more commonly used north of the border than it is in England. They've also adopted a horse. Their new horse was given up for adoption when his former owner went bankrupt and could no longer afford to care for him. He's a lively, confident piebald horse who loves people, especially children. Location: British Colombia, Canada-DD: [12] Myriam Victoire "Myra" Brocklehurst-Pandev [Gatineau, Quebec, Canada]Rome and Jack enjoyed their short visit to Quebec to pick up their new daughter, even though Rome got a bit airsick on the flight there (or maybe it was nerves). Jack told Myriam in a mixture of English and French that she understood perfectly but mostly went over Rome's head how his mother, her new grandmother, was also French-Canadian and had grown up not too far from there herself. Rome's getting a bit frustrated with how much French he really just can't follow (especially when they talk so fast!), so he's trying to learn a bit more.Myriam recently watched 'X-Men: First Class' with her fathers and absolutely loved the character of Moira MacTaggert (in addition to everyone else in the film; and she's now demanding to watch everything else X-Men ever) - she was even more excited to learn that the name Moira is in fact related to her own name; she wanted to use it as a nickname (since both of her dads have nicknames) but found it a bit difficult to actually pronounce, so she changed it to Myra, which is also closer to her own name.Myra's settling in reasonably well at school, and though she's old enough not to need after school care, her fathers signed her up for sports programs two days a week as well as a one day a week art program. She enjoys painting birds, trees, bears, and X-Men characters.Despite her busy schedule, Myra's been asking her fathers when they can get a dog.(Normally I prefer two middle names, but with the massive size of the hyphenated last name, I don't think Rome and Jack would be intentionally adding extra middle names. However, some children could already have two middle names - I'm not sure how common it is, but if you felt like throwing one or two at me, that'd be totally fine.)

After an awkward first couple of days, he's settled in and become quite close to his parents, who were pleased to notice that he has a similar quirky humor to Castor and shares Mac's passion for photography. The family has been enjoying spending weekends exploring the city, taking pictures and pretending to be interested in what Castor says about architecture. Orlando, who takes a fair amount of college courses already, tries to explain his love of all things medical to his new dads, who pretend to not be completely grossed out by it. Their only regret is that they didn't get to see Orlando grow up.They would love to adopt another child very soon, preferably in the age range of 7-10.I wouldn't mind if a few of their children had multiple middle names, but for the most part I think they'll go with just one.

DH: Émilien Aurelian Otto du Pont [28]
DW: Alethea Joséphine du Pont, née Devereux [28]
Location: Vence, France-DS: Pantaléon Alexei Dieudonné du Pont [2] [Ufa, Russia]The decision to adopt came naturally for both Émilien and Alethea, after all there were already enough children in this world without parents and they had the means to provide a loving family to at least few of them. Émilien expected his parents to be horrified by their decision, but the oposit was the true when they brought little Pantaléon home from Russia. They fell immediately head over heels in love with their first grandson. The first weeks were rough both for the du Ponts as well as for their son. The little boy was suddenly in a new country, with new people and couldn't understand a word French. Alethea was the only one who could speak Russian with the boy which was frustrating for both their son and Émilien. Luckily for them the little boy is picking up French quickly and Émilien has learned a thing or two from Russian as well.I'd like to continue with two middle names also for other kids. :)

Awesome! Here's your info for the new adoption.DH: Jack Oscar Monroe
DW: Maisie Adele (Smith) Monroe
Location: Boston--DD: [3][Uijeongbu, S Korea]Jack and Maisie have welcomed their new three-year old daughter, who is Japanese-Korean and from Uijeongbu in South Korea. Her birth name was quite boring, so they've decided to give her a more creative Korean name as a middle name and considered names from the namebank below. Her first name is a very frilly, somewhat dated feminine name which is not currently listed in the US top 500. It may or may not have a classy, old-fashioned nickname, and it should be quite long. She doesn't speak English at the moment but is quickly learning it. She's also shown an interest in science.MN Namebank: Eun-bi, Eun-kyung, Gyuri, Hye-jin, Hye-su, Jeong-ja, Ji-yeon, Kyung-hwa, Mi-ran, Min-seo, Nari, Sang-mi, Sung-sook, Yeo-jin, Yu-ri
