[Opinions] WDYT of Marnie?
I met a kid with this name the other day and it's been on my mind since.
I'm concerned it's maybe a little cutesy but then I can totally see it on an adult too so I don't know. I've never met one before.
WDYT?

How cool to meat a real one! I've loved it sine I read a book where the main character was named Marnie when I was a kid. (Totally not related to the Hitchcock movie.) Because of that book I've always thought it had a beautiful fantasy feel to it.
Has anyone else seen REPO: The Genetic Opera (being a Sarah Brightman fan, I have)? I feel I should like the name Marnie, but all I can think of is that line: "Remember what you diiid to Marnieee...."
I've met adult Marnies. Somehow I always assumed it was short for something, but I never thought about what. Definitely a cute nickname and works on a adult. I could go for it as a full name too, I think.
I am really, really fond of this name and would even consider using it, but DH is not so keen on it. I do not find Marnie too cutesy at all and to me, it works equally as well for a child as it does for an adult.
I quite like it. Somehow it doesn't sound very cute, probably because of the clunky "mar" sound. I prefer the spelling Marni, but I realise that's actually the Hebrew name and not the English dimunitive of Marna.

Sorry, but I think this name sounds very unattractive, too drawn-out and nasally sounding I guess. I've heard it on someone in real life and found it almost masculine. Maybe it just sounds worse with a Philadelphia accent though. I could see it sounding more bearable with a softer inflection, but I still think it's unsuitable as a full name.
I love the name Marnie! There was a beautiful girl called Marnie at my old school-- she was really goth-y and confident and it really fit her well. It has a nice meaning, too. I think it ages fine.
It's cute. But, it makes me think of the Alfred Hitchcock movie. It's not that good of an association.
It ought to seem kind of cute to me, but it doesn't. the m and n sounds either side of the ar just seem to make it drab and blah.
I read a book a few years ago by a woman who worked as a professional submissive, like the opposite of a dominatrix. Her real name was Joan, but at the "dungeon" where she worked she picked the working name Marnie. Which I guess is an improvement over Joan but she explained she'd taken a liking to it when she read about the Manson family, and Marnie was an alias patricia Crenwinkle used sometimes. She said something like she felt sorry for how Krenwinkle came off in the media and empathised with her somehow. I forget exactly, but her reasoning for liking Marnie seemed pretty creepy.
