I am a big supporter of boys names on boys, Evelyn, Meredith, Ashley, etc. My partner has a typically feminine name and he has never had any problem with it, nor have any of the male Ashley's, Madison's, Gale's, Kelly's, or Courtney's I am all for taking back boys names.
That said, Mallory is an awful name for either gender in my opinion. It's commonly thought to mean "unfortunate" it's shortened to Mal "bad", it brings to mind ducks and it's just plain ugly.
