Opal is not a name I have thought much about. I don't think I really consider it a name. For a middle name it would be best to avoid ones that can also be words.Opal Rosalind

I've never really heard Opal used as a word. For some reason it seems very Victorian to me. I really like Opal Meredith.

I grew up familiar with the gemstone and always think of that, particularly white fire opal, when I see the name. For me, the name doesn't have a particularly strong time stamp.
