[Surname] GERBNER and PULITZER's meaning
I'm looking for the meaning of these surname of
famous people who was a HUNGARIAN immigrants,these are GERBNER and PULITZER.First, GERBNER
is surname of George Gerbner(1919~2005),
he was born Budapest, Hungary, he emigrated to the USA in 1939,
and he was became a professor of communication and founded cultivation theory.
(P.S and i think GERBNER is feels like Germanic... just suppose.)and PULITZER
is surname of Joseph Pulitzer(1847~1911).born in Makó, Hungary, in 1847.
he was emigrated USA in 1860s, and he published newspaper 'New York World'.does anyone know surname GERBNER and PULITZER's

These are both Jewish names. Pulitzer is a variant of Politzer which is derived from Politz, the German name of the Czech city of Police. Gerbner appears to be derived from German Gerbert which is composed of Germanic gari 'spear' and berht 'bright'.
