This is a name I noticed on the girls' top 1000 for the 1880s. It seems to have been used semi-frequently until the early 20th century (it last charted in 1913 and hasn't appeared since).
My guess is that it is a diminutive of
Temperance, which was sometimes used as a name back then.
Can someone confirm as to whether or not Tempie is a diminutive of
Temperance?
