So these are Pet Name Peeves? (smile)
I generally like diminutives which seem remotely or distantly related to their common formalities, yet due to the fact that so many adults assume that I am OK with "Barb", which I despise, I am careful not to assume.
There will always be folks who take it upon themselves to use a short form / diminutive without knowing whether a person uses or likes that nickname; it is usually by adults to children; or a from a boss to a subordinate. When I consider the social roles, it seems these "name-droppers" truly enjoy these power trips. (smile)
