An internet search fails to reveal much more than what you've already outlined. Adolph Merizan's obituary reads in part as follows: "Adolph Merizan was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Nov, 27, 1862; and died in Yucaipa, Calif., Feb. 20, 1949. He came to America when seventeen years old." Further information can be found at tinyurl.com/z5cc2su and tinyurl.com/hnesrty, including the fact that his father was supposedly Italian.
The name Merizan is neither Italian or Spanish but there are people named Merizano in various places (see tinyurl.com/zaqr3rs) so that could be the origin.
