[Opinions] Babylon?
WDYTO Babylon? I saw it on the back of a book today, with the nickame Babyl! Personally I think Bethlehem would make a better name in comparison if you ask me!

All I can think of is the whore of Babylon.

When I hear 'Babylon' I hear 'babble on' and it just seems ridiculous to matter which way I look at it.
I do know a Bethlehem and, while a bit over the top, it's okay.

Awful. I don't like Bethlehem either, but Babylon is worse.
I kind of like Jericho, though.

That's a terrible name to saddle a poor kid with.

I dislike Babylon as a name for a child... I can't picture an older person being called Baby, Babyl, or Babble. Bethlehem is better, I love the nn Beth. A better alternative if you like the sound of Babylon is Avalon, the name of the island in Arthurian legend.

Nah. I can't imagine it as a name. Makes me think of Babylon 5 and the song.

Reminds me of that book, "Rabble Starkey", where the main character is really named Parable Ann, but everyone calls her Rabble. Anyway, I don't care for it. Too much Bible for me. And it just doesn't sound good, besides.

Babylon was the centre of false religion in Bible times.
"By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down..."
Babylon 5.It's a no from me.

Babylon 5.First thing that pops into my head. It's so over-the-top. Bethlehem would make a far better name.

I think it's alright for a character. I don't think it would work IRL though (Baby? Babble? yeah...)
Bethlehem is an okay middle name IRL.
Right now I think the only names I like in that category are Jericho and Corinth.

I would agree with the Bethlehem comment. I do not like the nickname Babyl because it sounds like babble, though I like the spelling. Babylon is just nms, honestly. I like biblical and science fiction references usually. However, go with Bartholomew from the Bible or Tiberius from Star Trek if you want to go bold and nerdy.

They both suck as name, but at least a Bethlehem could be called Beth.

Agreed, like I said it is the better of two evils! Haha!

and even then ...Bethlehem is still over the top. Even Bethlehem, Pennsylvania capitalizes on their name by having tons of people get their Christmas cards postmarked there.

They also have a huge star in the center of town and have Christmas parties around the "star of Bethlehem". It's actually quite fun. (went to school there)

Yeah, I prefer Elizabeth, Bethany and even Bethel better than Bethlehem! And anything is better than Babylon at this point!

Bethlehem, just no. Belén is lovely though. And as for Babylon...!!! Why would anyone (Dirty Dancing excepted) want to be called Baby after they were two...
