My 10-year-old niece's name is Janine. I think it's rather sweet. It was more popular in the past than it is now; on the other hand, it was never mega-popular, which makes it seem less "dated" and more "retro." My sister struggled with the spelling for a while, and finally decided to go with the most crisp and clear spelling, Janine, and I agree it was the best choice. My niece is Janine Carys.
