I like it and I don't think it's tacky. I don't think word names are inherently tacky anyway. It's fine, although I do prefer Melanie and would use that rather than Melody.
I always imagine a Melody blonde. I think this is because the only Melody I've known of was a soap opera actress who was blonde. I wouldn't have any image of the parents of a Melody. I wouldn't think they were particularly musical or anything like that---I'd just think they found the name pretty.
