I used to really dislike Roberta but it is growing on me. I have an Italian friend with this name and apparently it is not as unfashionable in Italy as in the US (must have been quite common in the 80s and 90s) and hearing it often has made me like it quite a bit, I think it's cute.

I don't really care for Robbie or Bobbie as nicknames. Bertie is kind of sweet but I prefer the full name.

Opinions on Roberta?

Not overly keen on Roberta though I certainly don't dislike it and I like Robert. I know a Roberta Antoinette nn Bobbie and a Roberta Rachel who goes by Rora pron.roarer
I prefer the full name, and it would be refreshing to meet a little Roberta these days.

I know a teenager with this name. It's interesting to see on a young person, I've always assumed she was named after someone named Robert since it's really uncommon for younger people in the US.

Unfortunately, I dislike it... I just think the "bert" sound in any name is really ugly. I hope it will grow on me though, since it is a pretty sweet name otherwise.

Your nn problem would also be mine. I've known only two Roberta people: one was Robbie and the other was Bert. I quite enjoy the sound of Roberta, but not if it was going to shorten to anything, especially Bert!

I'd rather use Robyn on a girl, although I like Robin so much for a boy that I wouldn't.

I don't like Roberta much, I think it's the Ro, which I think of as row, rowing a boat, which I don't like.

I know a woman whose middle name was Roberta, named for her father, Robert. (He was always called Bob, though.)

I watched a bit of The Railway Children, and fell for Roberta (nn Bobbie), so I added it to my list, same for Phyllis actually. I'm not sure I like it as much now, but I do love the meaning, and I think it could be easily warmed to, if there were more little Robertas. Ro would make a nice nickname option in my opinion, but I agree Roberta in full is lovely.

Hi !!!

Roberta is fairly common here in Italy. Personally I find it a 'nearly classic'. I mean that it is a normal and quiet Italian name. It became quite unused since 2000s but it still #97 in 2015 Babies Names in Italy.

But I'm sincere..I dislike it.

I really like Roberta, I started to like because of The Cleveland Show so I'm all for it! Bertie is nice, though Betta could work as nickname as well! I like Ro as a nickname as for other Ro- names as well like Romilda and Rosalina!
