[Opinions] Charlene
The thread below about Charlotte made me think of Charlene and the fact that I always much preferred it over Charlotte. But most people seem to see it as downmarket and dated. What are your opinions on Charlene? I never cared for Charlotte but I love Lottie so I obviously can't get that from Charlene. But I think the full name is very sweet. Opinions on Charlene? Do you like Charlie as a nn? What about Lottie (on its own or as a nn for Charlotte, Charlotta, Carlotta)? Can you rank these?Charlene
Charlotte
Charlotta
Carlottaand Charlie or Lottie as a nickname? (for a full name of your choice)Thank you!

I love Charlene and I definitely don't think it needs a nickname! If I had to pick one though, Charlie. I'd also like to add I've always liked the name Charmaine.Ranking:
Charlene
Charlotte
Carlotta (actually think the nn Carly would be cute)
Charlotta (too much goin on here)

Where I live, Charlene is more frequent than Charlotte and I also prefer it. A lot. I was at school with a very nice Charlene whom we (at an all-girls school) used to call Charles. She didn't mind, but now that she's grown up she's settled on Charlie. Which is fine too.My ranking would be, first Charlene, then Carlotta for someone in the appropriate language environment; then a huge gap, and then Charlotte. Charlotta doesn't even finish.

I don't like Charlene or Charlotte. I prefer Charlize.

My mum has a girl in her class named Charline (and she has a fantastic alliterative French surname to go with it). I prefer that spelling over Charlene, not sure why. I guess -line just looks smoother than -lene fore some reason.I like both nicknames Charlie and Lottie. And I think Lottie is nice on it's own too.And ranking those four from best to "worst" (though I don't particularly dislike any of them)... Charlotte, Carlotta, Charlene, Charlotta

The only nice thing in there for me is the nn Charlie. Charlene and Charlotte are kinda ugly to me. Too southern?

Would be a breath of fresh air from all the Charlottes that are being born.I always felt that one could use the "Sharlotte" spelling (S replaces the C).

Charlene is far too dated for me. There is no comparison to timeless, glorious Charlotte to me. It's also one of my grandmothers' names.

Charlene is so retro and hip! I prefer it to Charlotte.Carlotta is my absolute favorite of those names -- I adore it. After Carlotta...Charlotta
Charlene

Charlene ftw!I always liked Charlotte. But if you compare Charlotte to Charlene, Charlene would win. I think Charlene sounds a bit more classier. Charlotte is still a very pretty and classy name, but something about Charlene... I prefer the nickname Lotte. Charlie sounds like a boy's nickname to me. Lotte is the one for Charlotte.
