Help[Opinions] Sara
The thread below made me realize how much I like the name Sara. Mainly due to 'A Little Princess' which is a wonderful book. It used to be super common and it is out of the question because it is the name of one of my relatives, but what do you think of Sara? Both Sarah and Sara have lost much of their popularity so in a kindergarten class today she might be the only Sara/Sarah. Do you think it sounds dated?

Sara is still quite a young name here - I grew up with a lot of Sara/Sarahs and they are now having their own kids, so using Sara would be akin to naming a baby Jennifer or Jessica. Yes, they would probably be the only on in their class, but they might share their name with half their classmate's mothers! :)
It's also indistinguishable from Sarah here, in terms of pronunciation. The only thing that sets it apart is that is looks a bit more modern, maybe? It has a very youthful vibe to it. Sarah is more homey and cozy and hunkered-down sensible classic. Sara is a bit dated to the 80's and 90's, but it has a breezy energetic charm.

I like Sarah a bit better. I still think Sara/Sarah is a common name. But you're right, not as common anymore.

Sara (usually pronounced SAR-uh in the UK) is okay: a nice enough name, and I'd like it on someone else's child. It seems lighter and weaker to me than Sarah, which has much more personal significance for me and which I prefer.
I've known two Saras ever, both of whom are over 50, and yet it doesn't really feel dated to me because afaik it's never been really common, although I was surprised to see that Sara and Sarah are both still in the top 100 in the UK. Sarah is plummeting, but Sara seems to actually be rising a little.
