I love Marceline and hate Marcella. Marceline seems very elegant and refined. Marcella has a frumpy vibe to me (I really dislike Ella and most of the 'El' names; that's probably why).
I don't think every name has to be shortened and I wouldn't shorten Marceline. I definitely wouldn't use Marcie, Ella or Ellie because they're not to my taste. Celine I think would be a stretch. Em or Mimi maybe
eta I don't like Marcela either. Coming round to Marguerite, but prefer Margarita (it doesn't bother me that there's a cocktail named for it)
