What do you think of Flavia, pronounced FLAH-vee-ah? I really like it. I imagine a blond girl in ancient Rome :)

I was just reading a Flavia de Luce mystery! Flavia is pretty especially with this pronunciation and makes me think of a dryad. I dislike the Flay-vee-ah pronunciation, which sounds like something flayed.

I'm probably going to be in the minority, but I don't like it. It's hard for me to articulate exactly why; it could be that it reminds me of "flavor" or that I knew a woman named Flavia who was kind of difficult. Honestly, it just feels like it's missing something.

It seems to be still in use in modern Rome. I like it. I rather like Flavian, too.

I read a book with a haughty young blond girl in Ancient Rome named Flavia, and it was the perfect choice.

I like the name. I think it would work today.

I have a distant relative named Flavio (after Flavio diGioia, the inventor of the magnetic compass!!). I always thought Flavio was pretty cool too.

I love it. I pronounce it FLAY via because the only person I've met with this name said it that way, but either way it's a fabulous name.

Have you read any of the Lindsey Davies books?

Do you mean the Roman Mysteries? I watched the TV series when I was younger but wasn't able to find the books here back then. I should look for them again, I love to read about ancient Rome :)

I don't know that I am....There's a series of books about a Roman investigator called Didius Falco, and she's recently started a new seriees about his adopted daughter a blonde British-born woman called Flavia Albia. Some of them are great. The first book The Silver Pigs is one of my all time favourites

I like it. I've had it on my list for ages. I actually added it partially because of a character in a book series I was reading called Flavia (but said flay-vee-uh). But I can imagine it on anyone, especially since the first time I heard it (as Flah-) was on a dancer with dark brown hair haha. Flavia's beautiful, strong and feisty, an overall great name!

There is also a mystery series by Alan Bradley starring Flavia de Luce, a twelve year old girl living in postwar England.
