I think first of a friend's five-year-old daughter, then of
Amy Robsart, wife if the Elizabethan
Earl of Leicester (I first heard of her in Sir
Walter Scott's novel Kenilworth), and then of
Amy Fowler (
Grace Kelly) in High Noon.
When I was about five or six Mum used to go to a dressmaker whose grown up daughter was called
Amy and Mum used to say to me how much she disliked the name - but I thought it was sweet and pretty and still do.
If you love it, use it!
