I was determined to get the oldest child to 18. So here, have 22 years of this crazy royal family:

The kingdom of Catherston is a peaceful place. For the most part. The king and queen have three children, two girls and one boy. The oldest child, Evangeline, has been married off already, to a neighboring prince. The second child, Princess Ophelia, has just gotten married to Viscount Remus Harcourt. Remus and Ophelia were childhood friends who fell in love as the years went by. It’s a good thing that their parents had arranged a marriage between them already. Ophelia has curly black hair and grey eyes. Remus has wavy blond hair and blue eyes. Catherston is a democracy, in which the monarch has a small amount of power. As next in line, Ophelia will be that monarch one day (as Catherston is totally cool with letting women inherit - Ophelia’s father isn’t connecting to royals in any way except his wife!). Ophelia and Remus are happy to start their lives together!
Year 1: family event - current monarch dies
Ophelia was devastated when it was revealed that her mother, Catherston’s beloved Queen Rayna, died of a sickness. The mourning, as is a custom in Catherston, lasted for two weeks. On the final day of the second week, Ophelia was crowned Queen, and Remus her consort. Ophelia’s father, Raymond, is still around to help when needed, thankfully, as Ophelia thinks she may need it!

Year 2: family event - a member of the immediate family passes
Death seems to be common among the Boldridge family, as Ophelia’s younger brother Arthur died in an accident not three months past. He was only twenty years old. Scared by the recent deaths, Ophelia wrote to her sister Evangeline to ensure her safety, and was pleased to learn that Evangeline and her family were safe. Other than that, the kingdom is doing well. Ophelia has come to be glad for the democratic nature of their government, as it puts far less pressure on herself.

Year 3: political event - an alliance is formed with another country
Catherston has allied with Raidus, a country to the south. The decision took much deliberation, but everyone thought it was needed in the end. Besides, Raidus is a coastal country, while Catherston is not. Allying with Raidus makes trading much easier. Ophelia stays awake some nights, debating if she’s a good Queen. Of course, Remus tells her she is, but he’s just a tad bit biased.

Year 4: child event - 4 children
Babies have arrived! Over the past few years, Ophelia and Remus have felt the pressure to have children, especially as they approach their thirties. Not to mention, they really did want to be parents. However, they weren’t exactly expecting four babies! The first, Diarmad, has straight brown hair, an oddity in Ophelia’s family, and brown eyes. Baby Two, Clara, has curly blonde hair and blue eyes. She’s very much her father’s daughter. The third, Octavia, has curly black hair and brown eyes. The last baby, named Adrienne, got curly black hair and brown eyes. The entire kingdom rejoiced at the birth of the Prince and three Princesses, as did their parents. As the eldest, Diarmad will inherit after Ophelia’s death.

Year 5: family event - a member of the immediate family passes away
Once again there is a death in the family. This time, Ophelia’s father. He was growing older, so his death should not have been as much of a surprise as it was. Ophelia was heartbroken, as she had always been closer to her father than her mother, and she wasn’t the same for months. Nothing brought her out of her stupor, until, finally, her daughter Clara broke through. Ophelia has recovered now, though she still misses her father dearly.

Year 6: child event - baby boy
Another Prince is born! His name is Johann, and he has curly blond hair and grey eyes. Ophelia and Remus couldn’t be happier to have another son, nor could older brother Diarmad, who is rather tired of having to play with only his sisters. As for the girls, Clara took to Johann instantly, wanting to play with him and cuddle him. Octavia and Adrienne, however, weren’t so sure. Octavia is turning into quite the tomboy, and is already asking that Remus teach her to ride. Adrienne, on the other hand, prefers sitting alone and playing quietly to interacting with others.

Year 7: child event - baby girl
Welcome Princess Lavinia! This child was a surprise, as Ophelia and Remus weren’t expecting to have another baby so soon after Johann. But here she is anyway, and they are very pleased to have her. She has wavy blonde hair and blue eyes. She’s a very loud baby, however, as keeps up the entire wing of the castle at night. On the subject of good things, Ophelia’s older sister Evangeline visited with her oldest daughter Jeanne. It has been a long time since the sisters saw each other, so they had a good time together - when Ophelia wasn’t too busy trying to run a kingdom!

Year 8: child event - same-gender twins
Two more princesses join the royal family! Arwen and Renata both have wavy brown hair and brown eyes. While Ophelia is overjoyed to have her children, she’s starting to think that eight is enough. Not to mention that she’s starting to look for tutors for the oldest four, as they must begin lessons soon, and Octavia has a tendency to get herself into all sorts of trouble. Adrienne has taught herself to read, and spends all day reading anything she can get her hands on. Diarmad guides his little brother around the castle and grounds, doing whatever comes to mind. Clara spends most of her time with Lavinia, Arwen, and Renata, helping to look after the littlest princesses. Ophelia and Remus are glad to have such independent children, but at the same time they wish they could be a little less rowdy.

Year 9: family event - a parent and child fight + family event - someone is ill
Starting Octavia on lessons was not an easy thing to do. The five-year-old, highly independent princess refused to do as she was told, and even tried to run away when Remus told her she needed to attend. This resulted in a huge fight that had most of the castle upset for a fortnight. Eventually, Octavia was convinced by Clara to come to lessons, however begrudgingly. However, she refuses to speak to her father still. Both have a very large stubborn streak, after all. After that fiasco, little Arwen came down with a severe illness. She was sick for weeks, and the family thought, for a moment, that the small girl would never recover. Luckily, she did, but her parents have been warned that she will never be quite the same again - the sickness affected her lungs, meaning it’s hard for Arwen to catch her breath. Exertion is a no for her, at least until she much bigger.

Year 10: political event - the country goes to war
Ophelia knew that alliance with Raidus would come in handy. A dispute over borders that’s been going on for centuries with the neighboring country of Therwood escalated into war, and Ophelia called upon Raidus and Thrysta, the country where her sister is now Queen, for aid. Though Therwood is a smaller country, it is also very well-prepared for war; its people are war-like and pride themselves on their fighting prowess. On the other hand, Catherston is a large, peaceful nation. The aid from Raidus and Thrysta, both of whom have to deal with militaristic movements often, helps greatly in the war with Therwood. Luckily, Therwood is beaten within seven months. However, the incident caused Ophelia to being thinking of strengthening the military, a matter that has closed her up with the representatives in discussion for weeks.

Year 11: family event - current monarch dies
No one is quite sure how Ophelia died. She was young, had no illness. Some suspect assassination, while others say it was an accident. A very few claim it be a suicide. No matter how, Queen Ophelia is dead. Her eldest son, Diarmad, is too young, at seven years old, to take the throne, so his father Remus will reign in his stead until the boy is eighteen.
Catherston as a whole is devastated by the loss of Ophelia. She was a good Queen, and a wonderful mother to her eight children: Diarmad, Clara, Octavia, Adrienne, Johann, Lavinia, Arwen, and Renata. There are already rumors concerning Remus; whether he will marry again. But Ophelia was the love of his life. He cannot see himself loving again.

Year 12: political event - a major politician is assassinated
It turns out that those who suspected assassination to be behind Ophelia’s death were correct. A major politician has turned up dead, poisoned. No one knows who is behind the assassinations, though Remus, with the consent of the people, has put resources into finding the killer - and the reasons why. Meanwhile, the rest of the representatives live in fear. Nothing like this has happened in Catherston is hundreds of years, it being a peaceful nation.
Diarmad, at eight years old, has insisted he be kept updated about the goings-on the country. He claims that it will help him better understand in years to come. Remus is impressed with the maturity and intelligence of his oldest son. In fact, all four of the older children have matured since their mother’s death. Clara, who was already quite a mature girl, has taken over looking after Lavinia, Arwen, and Renata, mothering them in her mother’s absence. Octavia no longer gets herself into all sorts of trouble, though she is still a tomboy - she speaks often of becoming a knight or a spy. Adrienne has devoted time into researching what to do if the assassinations continue, and how to counteract all kinds of poisons. Johann, at five, has begun his studies, though he would much rather be riding his horse, Julian.

Year 13: family event - someone is injured + family event - a member of the immediate family passes away
Octavia fell off her horse while riding. She broke her leg, but will recover in time. However, the nine-year-old is disappointed that she won’t be able to run or ride or go outside much until it is healed. Five-year-old Arwen, however, put things into perspective by saying that at least Octavia can still breathe properly. This was further hammered in when little Arwen passed away, due to complications with her weak lungs. Renata, Arwen’s twin, was affected the most, besides Remus and Clara, who had become sort of a mother to her youngest sisters.

Year 14: family event - the family gets a pet + family event - royal remarriage
Technically, the family has several pets, what with everyone having their own horse, but Remus decided the children needed another companion. So, he got them a cat. It is a small orange kitten that Adrienne named Sherbert. The children all took to the cat immediately, even Octavia, who prefers dogs. Though she was intended for the whole family, Sherbert sort of became Renata’s cat - the six-year-old has been struggling since the death of her twin, and Sherbert became a close companion to the hurting girl.
It’s good the children are used to change, because Remus has remarried. Though he cares for the woman, Elspet, he feels little love for her, and chose to marry her for his children - they need a mother, not just Clara pretending to be one. Elspet is a kind woman who knows the family well, so the children are used to her. She has curly brown hair and blue eyes. While she has accepted the fact that Remus does not love her, she made it known before marrying him that she loves him. However, she’s willing to live with it. The children, so far, like Elspet. Octavia, Johann, and Lavinia, who refuse to “behave” have the most trouble with her, as she insists on perfect behavior, but she’s rather lenient with them, especially Octavia.

Year 15: child event - same-gender twins
Yes, everyone’s shocked by this development: not five months after marrying Remus, Elspet gave birth to twin girls, Mary and Anna. It was obvious that they were not Remus’s daughters - both girls have wavy black hair and hazel eyes - though Elspet refused to betray their father’s true identity. However, as Elspet’s husband, Remus took them as his own. Though the girls are not princesses, they bear their own titles, and will be well taken care of when they grow up.
Diarmad is eleven now, and is doing very well in his lessons. Remus is confident he will make a good king someday. Clara has decided she would like to study nursing, though her father is looking for a suitable match for her. He does not plan to marry her off for some time, but having someone in mind - for Clara and her two same-age sisters - is a good thing. Octavia has begun training with the sword, after years of begging, and is proving to be quite good at it. Adrienne is still buried in her books; in fact, the castle library has come to be known as “Adrienne’s Library”. Johann, at nine, is as rowdy as ever. He still tags along after his older brother when he can, though he is shut out from many of Diarmad’s lessons. Lavinia is eight, and loves to spend time out near the stables. She’s learning much from the stablemaster. Renata is still quiet and withdrawn, spending more time with the cat than her siblings.

Year 16: political event - a revolutionary group gathers popularity
No one can figure out why this is happening. They thought the system was good, that the people were happy. The assassinations stopped ages ago, though no culprit was found. Apparently, not all is well: it has come to light that the rebels were behind the assassinations of Ophelia and the politician all those years ago. Remus is a bit at a loss, and has turned to Evangeline in Thrysta for help. With her guidance, he has listened to the problems of the revolutionaries (who mainly want to be noticed, after all) and is debating what to do now. Diarmad keeps trying to help his father, who gladly lets the boy give his opinion, though he doesn’t always utilize them. Eventually, the country was returned to order and the revolutionaries appeased.

Year 17: child event - baby girl
It seems that, after three years, Remus has come around to Elspet, to her joy. She recently gave birth to a baby girl, Jezebel. This new child has curly blonde hair and blue eyes. Bel’s older half-siblings aren’t sure what to make of her. Mary and Anna, they accepted, as the girls weren’t related to them. This one, however, is their half-sister. Clara is the most ready to accept Bel, having wanted another baby in the house - as withdrawn Renata is now nine years old. If Elspet would let her, Clara would raise the baby on her own. However, the others aren’t sure yet, and Lavinia flat-out rejected Bel. This resulted in a fight, and Lavinia now refuses to speak to both her father and her stepmother (and Clara, for that matter).

Year 18: family event - a member of the immediate family passes away
Due to complications at birth, baby Bel has died. Elspet is rather depressed by this, as is Remus. The other children, with the exception of Clara, aren’t as affected. Mary and Anna are too young to understand, at only three. And, sad to say it, the other children have become rather desensitized to death (well, not Renata. But she’s hardly seen these days).
Not a day passes when Diarmad isn’t becoming more like his father. At fourteen years old, he’s really grown up. He’s intelligent, kind, and fair, and while he thinks he would be a good king, he accepts that he is nowhere near ready for it. Octavia is quite the swordswoman, and the knights have accepted her as a squire among them, despite her princess status. Adrienne is writing now as well as reading, and has taken up scientific experiments to keep herself busy. Johann, now twelve, is finding it rather hard to find things to occupy himself; he is bored easily. Remus worries for him. Lavinia is still not speaking to Remus or Elspet, and spends more time on her horse than in the castle. She’s become quite the equestrian. Renata has come back out of her shell some in the past five years, though she’s still abnormally quiet.

Year 19: family event - a royal divorce
It turns out that loosing Bel was too much for Elspet; she’s divorced from Remus and taken Mary and Anna to live on her family’s estate. In all honesty, Remus isn’t too broken up about it. Since Bel died, their relationship was mainly arguments: about the children, about the country, about everything. So in actuality, maybe the divorce was a good thing. Elspet cut the twins’ ties to Remus as well, giving them her maiden surname instead of his. Remus’s children aren’t too upset about Elspet going; though they liked her, they weren’t happy with all the fighting.

A bout of influenza swept through the kingdom, infecting half the residents. Luckily, everything was put under control before it got too serious - in part thanks to Adrienne - but not before four of the royal children were infected. Clara, Johann, Lavinia, and Renata all caught the disease. It was worse on Renata than the others, and she took it much harder; her strongest memory of illness was associated with the death of her twin, so she panicked. She, and her older siblings, recovered just fine, however.
Remus is beginning to count down the months until Diarmad takes over. The boy is sixteen now, and in two years will be crowned King. At the same time, Remus’s long-ago plans for the marriages of the four eldest have been solidified. Diarmad, Clara, Octavia, and Adrienne have begun to meet the people Remus has chosen, and so far Octavia is the only one with problems. She has expressed a desire to not marry at all to her father, and he has honored this, arranging with the boy’s family for him to perhaps match with Lavinia instead.

Year 21: family event - royal remarriage
Remus is trying once more with another woman, Amity. She was married once before, and was widowed, and has three children of her own. For both, it is more of a marriage of convenience than one of love. Remus’s eight have given up arguing with their father (unless it’s Lavinia we’re talking about, she’s still angry), and have accepted this fact. Not to mention, Diarmad’s eighteenth is fast approaching.
It has been ten years since Ophelia died. On the date of her death, Remus and her children spent the day mourning her. In fact, the entire kingdom remembered her that day. None could stop the tears.

Year 22: family event - someone is injured or ill
Ophelia, now a full-fledged knight, was injured in a duel. Her side was split open by her opponent’s blade, though she won the duel. Her side was bandaged and stitched back together by her sister Adrienne, much to her thanks.
But, better news! Prince Diarmad has become King Diarmad! He was crowned the day after his birthday, to thunderous applause. Remus was all too happy to step down, his eleven years of ruling in his son’s stead too much for him. In the same week, Clara was married to Evander of Raidus, the second son of the king. Clara is pleased with this match, and hopes to be very happy. Though Adrienne is promised to a Duke of Catherston, Olin, both have agreed to not marry just yet, as they are too deep in their experiments to think about marriage. Johann, now sixteen, is starting to think about girls himself...or maybe boys. He’s not quite sure yet. Either way, the younger prince has developed a talent for music that lay untested before, and he spends much of his time composing. Lavinia has finally made up with her father at the suggestion of her stepmother, and Remus is pleased to have her speaking to him again. She’s known around the kingdom for her riding skills, and has won many a race. Renata is still the ever-quiet, keeping the cat Sherbert company. She likes it this way, and if she’s happy, well, Remus is happy.

The kingdom of Catherston is a peaceful place. For the most part. The king and queen have three children, two girls and one boy. The oldest child, Evangeline, has been married off already, to a neighboring prince. The second child, Princess Ophelia, has just gotten married to Viscount Remus Harcourt. Remus and Ophelia were childhood friends who fell in love as the years went by. It’s a good thing that their parents had arranged a marriage between them already. Ophelia has curly black hair and grey eyes. Remus has wavy blond hair and blue eyes. Catherston is a democracy, in which the monarch has a small amount of power. As next in line, Ophelia will be that monarch one day (as Catherston is totally cool with letting women inherit - Ophelia’s father isn’t connecting to royals in any way except his wife!). Ophelia and Remus are happy to start their lives together!
Year 1: family event - current monarch dies
Ophelia was devastated when it was revealed that her mother, Catherston’s beloved Queen Rayna, died of a sickness. The mourning, as is a custom in Catherston, lasted for two weeks. On the final day of the second week, Ophelia was crowned Queen, and Remus her consort. Ophelia’s father, Raymond, is still around to help when needed, thankfully, as Ophelia thinks she may need it!

Death seems to be common among the Boldridge family, as Ophelia’s younger brother Arthur died in an accident not three months past. He was only twenty years old. Scared by the recent deaths, Ophelia wrote to her sister Evangeline to ensure her safety, and was pleased to learn that Evangeline and her family were safe. Other than that, the kingdom is doing well. Ophelia has come to be glad for the democratic nature of their government, as it puts far less pressure on herself.

Year 3: political event - an alliance is formed with another country
Catherston has allied with Raidus, a country to the south. The decision took much deliberation, but everyone thought it was needed in the end. Besides, Raidus is a coastal country, while Catherston is not. Allying with Raidus makes trading much easier. Ophelia stays awake some nights, debating if she’s a good Queen. Of course, Remus tells her she is, but he’s just a tad bit biased.

Babies have arrived! Over the past few years, Ophelia and Remus have felt the pressure to have children, especially as they approach their thirties. Not to mention, they really did want to be parents. However, they weren’t exactly expecting four babies! The first, Diarmad, has straight brown hair, an oddity in Ophelia’s family, and brown eyes. Baby Two, Clara, has curly blonde hair and blue eyes. She’s very much her father’s daughter. The third, Octavia, has curly black hair and brown eyes. The last baby, named Adrienne, got curly black hair and brown eyes. The entire kingdom rejoiced at the birth of the Prince and three Princesses, as did their parents. As the eldest, Diarmad will inherit after Ophelia’s death.

Once again there is a death in the family. This time, Ophelia’s father. He was growing older, so his death should not have been as much of a surprise as it was. Ophelia was heartbroken, as she had always been closer to her father than her mother, and she wasn’t the same for months. Nothing brought her out of her stupor, until, finally, her daughter Clara broke through. Ophelia has recovered now, though she still misses her father dearly.

Another Prince is born! His name is Johann, and he has curly blond hair and grey eyes. Ophelia and Remus couldn’t be happier to have another son, nor could older brother Diarmad, who is rather tired of having to play with only his sisters. As for the girls, Clara took to Johann instantly, wanting to play with him and cuddle him. Octavia and Adrienne, however, weren’t so sure. Octavia is turning into quite the tomboy, and is already asking that Remus teach her to ride. Adrienne, on the other hand, prefers sitting alone and playing quietly to interacting with others.

Welcome Princess Lavinia! This child was a surprise, as Ophelia and Remus weren’t expecting to have another baby so soon after Johann. But here she is anyway, and they are very pleased to have her. She has wavy blonde hair and blue eyes. She’s a very loud baby, however, as keeps up the entire wing of the castle at night. On the subject of good things, Ophelia’s older sister Evangeline visited with her oldest daughter Jeanne. It has been a long time since the sisters saw each other, so they had a good time together - when Ophelia wasn’t too busy trying to run a kingdom!

Year 8: child event - same-gender twins
Two more princesses join the royal family! Arwen and Renata both have wavy brown hair and brown eyes. While Ophelia is overjoyed to have her children, she’s starting to think that eight is enough. Not to mention that she’s starting to look for tutors for the oldest four, as they must begin lessons soon, and Octavia has a tendency to get herself into all sorts of trouble. Adrienne has taught herself to read, and spends all day reading anything she can get her hands on. Diarmad guides his little brother around the castle and grounds, doing whatever comes to mind. Clara spends most of her time with Lavinia, Arwen, and Renata, helping to look after the littlest princesses. Ophelia and Remus are glad to have such independent children, but at the same time they wish they could be a little less rowdy.

Year 9: family event - a parent and child fight + family event - someone is ill
Starting Octavia on lessons was not an easy thing to do. The five-year-old, highly independent princess refused to do as she was told, and even tried to run away when Remus told her she needed to attend. This resulted in a huge fight that had most of the castle upset for a fortnight. Eventually, Octavia was convinced by Clara to come to lessons, however begrudgingly. However, she refuses to speak to her father still. Both have a very large stubborn streak, after all. After that fiasco, little Arwen came down with a severe illness. She was sick for weeks, and the family thought, for a moment, that the small girl would never recover. Luckily, she did, but her parents have been warned that she will never be quite the same again - the sickness affected her lungs, meaning it’s hard for Arwen to catch her breath. Exertion is a no for her, at least until she much bigger.

Year 10: political event - the country goes to war
Ophelia knew that alliance with Raidus would come in handy. A dispute over borders that’s been going on for centuries with the neighboring country of Therwood escalated into war, and Ophelia called upon Raidus and Thrysta, the country where her sister is now Queen, for aid. Though Therwood is a smaller country, it is also very well-prepared for war; its people are war-like and pride themselves on their fighting prowess. On the other hand, Catherston is a large, peaceful nation. The aid from Raidus and Thrysta, both of whom have to deal with militaristic movements often, helps greatly in the war with Therwood. Luckily, Therwood is beaten within seven months. However, the incident caused Ophelia to being thinking of strengthening the military, a matter that has closed her up with the representatives in discussion for weeks.

Year 11: family event - current monarch dies
No one is quite sure how Ophelia died. She was young, had no illness. Some suspect assassination, while others say it was an accident. A very few claim it be a suicide. No matter how, Queen Ophelia is dead. Her eldest son, Diarmad, is too young, at seven years old, to take the throne, so his father Remus will reign in his stead until the boy is eighteen.
Catherston as a whole is devastated by the loss of Ophelia. She was a good Queen, and a wonderful mother to her eight children: Diarmad, Clara, Octavia, Adrienne, Johann, Lavinia, Arwen, and Renata. There are already rumors concerning Remus; whether he will marry again. But Ophelia was the love of his life. He cannot see himself loving again.

Year 12: political event - a major politician is assassinated
It turns out that those who suspected assassination to be behind Ophelia’s death were correct. A major politician has turned up dead, poisoned. No one knows who is behind the assassinations, though Remus, with the consent of the people, has put resources into finding the killer - and the reasons why. Meanwhile, the rest of the representatives live in fear. Nothing like this has happened in Catherston is hundreds of years, it being a peaceful nation.
Diarmad, at eight years old, has insisted he be kept updated about the goings-on the country. He claims that it will help him better understand in years to come. Remus is impressed with the maturity and intelligence of his oldest son. In fact, all four of the older children have matured since their mother’s death. Clara, who was already quite a mature girl, has taken over looking after Lavinia, Arwen, and Renata, mothering them in her mother’s absence. Octavia no longer gets herself into all sorts of trouble, though she is still a tomboy - she speaks often of becoming a knight or a spy. Adrienne has devoted time into researching what to do if the assassinations continue, and how to counteract all kinds of poisons. Johann, at five, has begun his studies, though he would much rather be riding his horse, Julian.

Octavia fell off her horse while riding. She broke her leg, but will recover in time. However, the nine-year-old is disappointed that she won’t be able to run or ride or go outside much until it is healed. Five-year-old Arwen, however, put things into perspective by saying that at least Octavia can still breathe properly. This was further hammered in when little Arwen passed away, due to complications with her weak lungs. Renata, Arwen’s twin, was affected the most, besides Remus and Clara, who had become sort of a mother to her youngest sisters.

Year 14: family event - the family gets a pet + family event - royal remarriage
Technically, the family has several pets, what with everyone having their own horse, but Remus decided the children needed another companion. So, he got them a cat. It is a small orange kitten that Adrienne named Sherbert. The children all took to the cat immediately, even Octavia, who prefers dogs. Though she was intended for the whole family, Sherbert sort of became Renata’s cat - the six-year-old has been struggling since the death of her twin, and Sherbert became a close companion to the hurting girl.
It’s good the children are used to change, because Remus has remarried. Though he cares for the woman, Elspet, he feels little love for her, and chose to marry her for his children - they need a mother, not just Clara pretending to be one. Elspet is a kind woman who knows the family well, so the children are used to her. She has curly brown hair and blue eyes. While she has accepted the fact that Remus does not love her, she made it known before marrying him that she loves him. However, she’s willing to live with it. The children, so far, like Elspet. Octavia, Johann, and Lavinia, who refuse to “behave” have the most trouble with her, as she insists on perfect behavior, but she’s rather lenient with them, especially Octavia.

Yes, everyone’s shocked by this development: not five months after marrying Remus, Elspet gave birth to twin girls, Mary and Anna. It was obvious that they were not Remus’s daughters - both girls have wavy black hair and hazel eyes - though Elspet refused to betray their father’s true identity. However, as Elspet’s husband, Remus took them as his own. Though the girls are not princesses, they bear their own titles, and will be well taken care of when they grow up.
Diarmad is eleven now, and is doing very well in his lessons. Remus is confident he will make a good king someday. Clara has decided she would like to study nursing, though her father is looking for a suitable match for her. He does not plan to marry her off for some time, but having someone in mind - for Clara and her two same-age sisters - is a good thing. Octavia has begun training with the sword, after years of begging, and is proving to be quite good at it. Adrienne is still buried in her books; in fact, the castle library has come to be known as “Adrienne’s Library”. Johann, at nine, is as rowdy as ever. He still tags along after his older brother when he can, though he is shut out from many of Diarmad’s lessons. Lavinia is eight, and loves to spend time out near the stables. She’s learning much from the stablemaster. Renata is still quiet and withdrawn, spending more time with the cat than her siblings.

Year 16: political event - a revolutionary group gathers popularity
No one can figure out why this is happening. They thought the system was good, that the people were happy. The assassinations stopped ages ago, though no culprit was found. Apparently, not all is well: it has come to light that the rebels were behind the assassinations of Ophelia and the politician all those years ago. Remus is a bit at a loss, and has turned to Evangeline in Thrysta for help. With her guidance, he has listened to the problems of the revolutionaries (who mainly want to be noticed, after all) and is debating what to do now. Diarmad keeps trying to help his father, who gladly lets the boy give his opinion, though he doesn’t always utilize them. Eventually, the country was returned to order and the revolutionaries appeased.

Year 17: child event - baby girl
It seems that, after three years, Remus has come around to Elspet, to her joy. She recently gave birth to a baby girl, Jezebel. This new child has curly blonde hair and blue eyes. Bel’s older half-siblings aren’t sure what to make of her. Mary and Anna, they accepted, as the girls weren’t related to them. This one, however, is their half-sister. Clara is the most ready to accept Bel, having wanted another baby in the house - as withdrawn Renata is now nine years old. If Elspet would let her, Clara would raise the baby on her own. However, the others aren’t sure yet, and Lavinia flat-out rejected Bel. This resulted in a fight, and Lavinia now refuses to speak to both her father and her stepmother (and Clara, for that matter).

Year 18: family event - a member of the immediate family passes away
Due to complications at birth, baby Bel has died. Elspet is rather depressed by this, as is Remus. The other children, with the exception of Clara, aren’t as affected. Mary and Anna are too young to understand, at only three. And, sad to say it, the other children have become rather desensitized to death (well, not Renata. But she’s hardly seen these days).
Not a day passes when Diarmad isn’t becoming more like his father. At fourteen years old, he’s really grown up. He’s intelligent, kind, and fair, and while he thinks he would be a good king, he accepts that he is nowhere near ready for it. Octavia is quite the swordswoman, and the knights have accepted her as a squire among them, despite her princess status. Adrienne is writing now as well as reading, and has taken up scientific experiments to keep herself busy. Johann, now twelve, is finding it rather hard to find things to occupy himself; he is bored easily. Remus worries for him. Lavinia is still not speaking to Remus or Elspet, and spends more time on her horse than in the castle. She’s become quite the equestrian. Renata has come back out of her shell some in the past five years, though she’s still abnormally quiet.

Year 19: family event - a royal divorce
It turns out that loosing Bel was too much for Elspet; she’s divorced from Remus and taken Mary and Anna to live on her family’s estate. In all honesty, Remus isn’t too broken up about it. Since Bel died, their relationship was mainly arguments: about the children, about the country, about everything. So in actuality, maybe the divorce was a good thing. Elspet cut the twins’ ties to Remus as well, giving them her maiden surname instead of his. Remus’s children aren’t too upset about Elspet going; though they liked her, they weren’t happy with all the fighting.

Year 20: family event - someone is ill
A bout of influenza swept through the kingdom, infecting half the residents. Luckily, everything was put under control before it got too serious - in part thanks to Adrienne - but not before four of the royal children were infected. Clara, Johann, Lavinia, and Renata all caught the disease. It was worse on Renata than the others, and she took it much harder; her strongest memory of illness was associated with the death of her twin, so she panicked. She, and her older siblings, recovered just fine, however.
Remus is beginning to count down the months until Diarmad takes over. The boy is sixteen now, and in two years will be crowned King. At the same time, Remus’s long-ago plans for the marriages of the four eldest have been solidified. Diarmad, Clara, Octavia, and Adrienne have begun to meet the people Remus has chosen, and so far Octavia is the only one with problems. She has expressed a desire to not marry at all to her father, and he has honored this, arranging with the boy’s family for him to perhaps match with Lavinia instead.

Year 21: family event - royal remarriage
Remus is trying once more with another woman, Amity. She was married once before, and was widowed, and has three children of her own. For both, it is more of a marriage of convenience than one of love. Remus’s eight have given up arguing with their father (unless it’s Lavinia we’re talking about, she’s still angry), and have accepted this fact. Not to mention, Diarmad’s eighteenth is fast approaching.
It has been ten years since Ophelia died. On the date of her death, Remus and her children spent the day mourning her. In fact, the entire kingdom remembered her that day. None could stop the tears.

Year 22: family event - someone is injured or ill
Ophelia, now a full-fledged knight, was injured in a duel. Her side was split open by her opponent’s blade, though she won the duel. Her side was bandaged and stitched back together by her sister Adrienne, much to her thanks.
But, better news! Prince Diarmad has become King Diarmad! He was crowned the day after his birthday, to thunderous applause. Remus was all too happy to step down, his eleven years of ruling in his son’s stead too much for him. In the same week, Clara was married to Evander of Raidus, the second son of the king. Clara is pleased with this match, and hopes to be very happy. Though Adrienne is promised to a Duke of Catherston, Olin, both have agreed to not marry just yet, as they are too deep in their experiments to think about marriage. Johann, now sixteen, is starting to think about girls himself...or maybe boys. He’s not quite sure yet. Either way, the younger prince has developed a talent for music that lay untested before, and he spends much of his time composing. Lavinia has finally made up with her father at the suggestion of her stepmother, and Remus is pleased to have her speaking to him again. She’s known around the kingdom for her riding skills, and has won many a race. Renata is still the ever-quiet, keeping the cat Sherbert company. She likes it this way, and if she’s happy, well, Remus is happy.
