[Opinions] Mafalda
Hi !!!What about this Italian name?
Its root is the Germanic name Mahthildis (Maud, Matilda). The name Mahthildis came in Italy with the adaptation of the French variant Mahaut which was Macalda (today not used at all). The variant Mafalda was borne when a Savoy Princess married a Portuguese King in the 12th century changing her name in Mafalda (the Portuguese variant).Since that time Mafalda became a name used in the Savoy Royal Family so an Italian name.In 2015 only five newborns were given this name.WDYT?Bruno Dante Davide Fabrizio Flavio Giordano Giorgio Giulio Gregorio Leandro Leone Ludovico Massimo Michele Niccolò Romeo Valentino VittorioAgata Anastasia Cassandra Diana Eleonora Elisabetta Ester Luna Maia Morgana Stella Zoe

The second I read/hear it, all that pops in my head in Mafalda Hopkirk (a HP reference). Not that it's a bad association, but I don't think royal or Italian when I hear it. Even if it is. I think the parents must be big HP fans and were looking for a less common HP name.

Hello :)Mafalda is kind of cute. I think it would be the perfect name for a very kind and sweet witch. In a Harry Potter way, not a creepy old witch. Isn't there a witch with this name in the Harry Potter series? I think so. But I don't really remember what she did, I think her first name was only mentioned a few times.I never knew Mafalda was also Italian. I mainly know it as a Portuguese name. The more I think about Mafalda the more I like it :) It's cute and not popular. I think I would give it an 8/10. The reason why I wouldn't use it is because it has three syllables but I can't think of any good nicknames for it. Mafa, Mafi, Falda - they don't appeal to me.I actually love Matilda but it is getting kind of trendy and popular in Austria. Here it is most often spelled Mathilda but Matilda is used too. In France Mathilde was really really common. I love Mathilde too. I also like Matilde. But all of these are so popular that Mafalda seems fresher.

The name sounds dark and sinister to me, which is great, as I love names that have a dark side to them. I feel like this could have been the name of the mother or sister of Maleficent, the evil fairy from the Disney film Sleeping Beauty. Or something along those lines. ;)

Haha, Clarissa's annoying aunt. It's pretty heavy, but not egregious.
