Alexis seems entirely male to me, and I'd rather use another form of it for a girl. Alexandra is long and clunky and inconvenient for everyday use.
Instead of Alexis (m) or Alexander, I would and did use Alastair, though it was to honour two friends. And instead of Alexandra, I'd use Alexa.
