I don't like Barbara, but Barbie is kind of cute. However, although I've known a ton of Barbaras, not one has gone by Barbie. Must be because of the doll.Babs is horrible.

Big old nope. Barbara is only slightly better. I hope I don't offend any Barbaras out there when I say I always think of barbed wire. The doll is so prevalent in our society's minds that the name will never recover. I have higher hopes for Kermit and Minnie than I do for Barbie.

Barbie is equally as terrible as Barbara, in my opinion. Plus, not only does the name look and sound very unattractive to me but the name is like completely synonymous with the terms of "plastic" & "fake" Referring to a preppy or preppy and snobby type of girls. "That girl is too much of a barbie"
Just my association. Jane and June are beautiful

I've known quite a few Barbaras, but none of them ever went by Barbie, and only one that I know of sometimes went by Barb, and I think maybe her husband was the only one to use that. It might have been funny, for a minute, if she had been Barbie, because her husband was Ken.Babs is worse than Barbie. Barbie at least stereotypically connotes somebody very attractive. Babs just sounds like jowls. Flapping your babs around.

I've never known a real-life Barbie; just the plastic version with the boobs. What bugs me is the combination of such a very, er, mature rendition of an adult female coupled with a very young-sounding nn. It clashes.Nns that I have encountered for Barbara are Babs, Bah, Bibi and Barbs, none of which would sound remotely good with -Jane. However, in spite of the Beach Boys' best efforts I don't like Barbara-Ann as a unit. The words run together in a way I find awkward. Barbara-Jane, Barbara-Jean, Barbara-Joan etc would work better for me.

I think it works in a double name. Barbara Jane (which i know you didn't mention, sorry!) is actually pretty and Barbie Jane is adorable.I know a Barbie, she's skinny and ditzy and blonde. Bizarre to see the impression reflected irl.
