[Opinions] Madeleine

Madeline = line & Madeleine = len. Doesn't seem dated, Madelyn maybe. I prefer Madeleine over Madeline but like both. I'd only use (Madeleine) as a middle because I can't stand Maddie. Sure you can ask people to call her something else (I think Della is beautiful) but she could always want to be called Maddie when she gets older.
funny how all the posters in this thread have P usernames lol (as of when I posted anyway lol)
ETA my actual contribution to the thread lol
I personally love both of them, but I tend to lean towards Madeline. I don't think Maddie is completely avoidable, but that's fine with me because I like the nn. I always pronounce them both the same, too.

I'd pronounce them mad LEEN and mad LEN - maybe with a tiny schwa between syllables - but I went to university with a Madeline who pronounced it MAD uh line, to rhyme with pine. The Madeleine I know is mad LEN. I like this best. I've known her for years and nobody has ever called her Maddie, so yup, I'd say it was avoidable.
I think ones pronounced Mad-uh-lynn and ones pronounced Mad-uh-line but I could be wrong and I don't know which is which. I prefer the look of Madeleine. (-:
I have met a few young American Madelines and Madeleines and they were all pronounced Mad-uh-lynn. I'm wondering whether anyone uses the -line pronunciation. I think it was used in the movie that is based on the Madeline books but apart from that I have never heard it as -line. I've heard it a lot and always as -lynn. But I'm wondering if someone met a Madeline who uses the -line pronunciation. It comes from Magdalene which is closer to the -lynn pronunciation, I guess.

Yeah, I'm not sure! I just see a lot of debate about pronunciation with these 2, but I've personally always pronounced them the same...
The Backstreet Boys, in their song "Madeleine", pronounce the title name as Mad-uh-layn. #SorryNotSorry for knowing a little BSB trivia lol actually a lot, cuz I've been a fan for 20 years.
