It's a little too cutesy for me, but I think it would be lovely for someone else's child.
I'm of the opinion that it's fine if you use a name that was used on a pet; I've never understood the strong feelings of doing so. Growing up we had a cat named Samuel "Sam" who lived to be 20, and I'd definitely consider using it.
