I don't like it. The Mal- part would put me off even if it didn't mean what it sounds like it means. It's just a glum name.
I do think it's very 80s. Well, it's very "pushing 30." The style of it never goes away, really.
Mallory, Lindsay, Brittany ... Taylor, Jordan, Kelsey ... Sydney, Hailey, Morgan, Madison ... Harper, Piper, Quinn. Surnames/placenames that seemed so preppy and spunky, but in just a couple decades they seem more like Tracy, Stacy, and Kelly. I think Mallory is still usable, but I wouldn't name a child a name that people will probably think of as middle-aged when she is college-aged.- mirfak
