Help[Opinions] Bartholomew
I love this name but have long wrote it off as completely impractical. For some reason I’m just starting to wonder if it could work... I like the nickname Tolly for it. So what do you think? Totally ridiculous and unfair or no big deal in today’s anything goes naming culture?

It's on my list as a middle idea as I was never much into "Bart" or Bartie, and can't think of any other obvious nickname ideas

I really like but I hate all the nicknames for it. I think it would be a cool name for a cat.

I adore Bartholomew! I would totally use it on a human. Tolly is an adorable nickname.

I think it's a great name and would be totally happy to meet a baby or little boy with the name. I like Tolly as a nn too. My only concern is the length of the name and how hard it would be for a child to learn how to spell it!

It’s not ridiculous: it’s a classic name with a long history. It also has a complex and dignified sound to it, and Tolly is an OK nickname (not as obvious as Bart, though). The name gives me the same feel as Matthew, probably because of the Christian Bible association and the rare -ew ending.
You mentioned how it compares with today’s names, and I definitely think it’s leaps above most of the trendy fare out there. I’d definitely take Bartholomew over Kylo or Nevaeh.

I like it. I don't think it's all that out there and I don't think an established name is ever 'unfair' unless its taken on another meaning, has an unfortunate namesake (and I mean Adolf esque unfortunate) or sounds identical to something undesirable.
Tolly's a nice way of shortening it. I think Mew would be fun too

I think it's fine. I would consider using it myself with either Barty or Tolly as a nickname.

No big deal. It's a saint's name, it's not unheard of, and it's a lot nicer imo than some of the biblical clunkers getting used these days. And Tolly is comfortably short and friendly.

I like Bartholomew and think it’s perfectly usable, especially with a nn (I like Tolly too). It’s not much of a challenge syllabically, and it’s familiar, so I think it’s fine.

I think it's fine as long as you use a nn. I don't personally like it but I wouldn't say it's impractical. And I really like the nn Tolly.
