[Opinions] Re: Jonah and Jonas
in reply to a message by Olwen
I like both of them a lot. I use Jonas in combos because it has the bonus of being my third great-grandfather's name.Jonas sounds "stronger" and Jonah is "softer"-- both good, but different feel.I don't associate Jonah with the whale story-- I did when I was a child when that was the only Jonah I'd heard of, but now it just feels like a normal name.

Out of curiosity, what other Jonahs do you know? If I had some other connection or association with the name, I think Jonah would strike me as more interesting and less of a one trick pony. I tend to avoid names with only one dominant, less than positive connection.Right now it seems like a whale of a name.

Jonah Hill is an actor. J. Jonah Jameson is Peter Parker's boss in the Spiderman series. Jonah Falcon is the owner of the world's largest penis (I worked for the text company kgbkgb_ about 10 years ago; this was the answer to one of our most common questions). But TBH I mainly associate it with small children-- it's in the top 200 and it fits with the other short, soft Biblical names that are popular-- Noah, Elijah, Ezra, Micah, Judah, Jonah. Here's other Jonahs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonah_(given_name)
