What do you think of Dolores? Would the meaning keep you from using it?
Does it have chances of a comeback? I thought it would never come back but then I saw that a young, beautiful and interesting character on the show Westworld (which premiered in 2016) was named Dolores and it was kind of nice on her and might inspire parents. I could see Dolly being somewhat fashionable and Lola could be used as well.
Do you like the variant Delores? It became quite popular at one point. Do you think people weren't aware of the original spelling or that people chose this variant because it appealed to them more? It seems like an odd spelling variant for some reason, was there a famous Delores?
Does anyone know if this name grew in popularity since 2016? It is not in the top 1000 yet does anyone know how I can look up names beyond the top 1000?

I don't care for the name much at all and the meaning does put me off a bit. Is it ready for a comeback? I can't see it, however, anything is possible. If an attractive and intriguing person/character became well known, it possibly could make a comeback.
Re: Delores, it appeals to me even less. True story: In high school, I had a friend whose mother was named this. I once asked the mother if she spelled her name Dolores or Delores. Her response? She didn't really know and she told me to write down either one. Even at the age of 16, I was thinking, "WTH? How could she not know how to spell her own name?" Years later, I still don't know how she spelled her name, lol.

A friend of a friend has a daughter named Dolores who's around 5, so yup I can see it on a child, and I can see it getting some use in a small way. Afaik they don't use a nickname.
Lola is pretty popular as a stand-alone here, thanks to a kids' tv series (Charlie and Lola) and Dolly has charted too.
I've never seen Delores and it looks odd to me. Reminds me of DeLorean cars.

-I really like Dolores! The sound is lovely and the meaning (“sorrows”), while not obviously positive, does have its own strength.
-The ability to endure sorrows with grace is one of the most important aspects of the human spirit, at least imho. When I think of Dolores, I think of that endurance and strength.
-My favorite nickname for it is Lori. Dolly is also nice, if a bit “too sweet.” I don’t really like Lola at all.
-And I don’t really care for Delores. To me it seems like a misspelling. Dolores is an actual word (in Spanish).
-Btw, on a personal level, I had an aunt (z”l) who was legally named Dolores. She was wonderful. She always hated her assigned name, though, and never went by it, so I wouldn’t use it to honor her.

I'd feel weird using it because my grandmother's name was Delora, but I wouldn't use that...I only like the Spanish pronunciation, and I don't like any of the nicknames for that. I think it's likely some people chose the Delores spelling because it better matched their intuitive pronunciation, and/or maybe it reminded them of their Aunt Della or something.
No, the meaning wouldn't be part of what kept me from using it (I think it actually has the potential to be really profound/complex, as Isaac pointed out, or it could be made more positive depending on middle name choice: like Dolores Althea, Dolores Consuelo, etc).
I think it could make a small comeback but don't expect it will become as popular as it was in the 30s, for the same reasons mirfak stated.

I have never liked this name. It was the name of Whoopi Goldberg's character in Sister Act, and I hated it as a kid. It's odd, because I do like a lot of Marian names. I wouldn't use them, but I like them.

The Harry Potter (Umbridge) connection puts me off more than the meaning, but I quite like the sound, and I wonder if the Westworld character outweighs HP (Umbridge isn’t referred to as Dolores as much as the one in Westworld). I would stick with that spelling, because Delores is the same when I say it, but doesn’t look quite right.

You know, now that I'm thinking about it, you have to think of the context of sorrows. It's particularly referring to the sorrows of the Virgin Mary. So it's talking about the "sorrows of one who has pure love". That makes it better I think.

It's a Marian name a little too obviously, like Mercedes. The popularity in the 20s-30s is usually attributed to Dolores Del Rio, an actress. I think it only hit mainstream because of a star named it, and that's not usually enough these days. I could see Dolly seeming fashionable, but it's too hipster to become a fad name. Lola has a chance, though.
I think in general, most people want names that weren't done to death in living memory, that weren't a past fad that became "old fashioned," and Dolores was a past fad. It'd have to be a character on a really, really popular TV show - like Game of Thrones-level popular, or in a megahit movie or something. Maybe the one you mention is enough to give it a small boost.

I think it’s a great name and no, the meaning doesn’t bother me. I think Dolly is really cute, but I’m not a huge fan of Lola.
I don’t know why Delores became popular, and I don’t like the look of it as much.
Idk if it’ll get revived. I’d wonder if people my age would associate with Dolores Umbridge.

The meaning is definitely a strike against it. But apart from that, I really dislike the sound, and the connection to the book Lolita.

I really want to like it. It's got a really pretty sound, but it means "sorrows". I don't know if maybe there's an alternative meaning? It's very pretty, and I think it's got potential to make a comeback.

It’s the name of my great aunt, so that’s my biggest association. I’m honestly not a fan. It sounds ugly and I don’t like the meaning.
