Jonie and Will met in their senior year of high school. Will had just moved from a small town and was very quiet and shy, while Jonie was loud and outgoing. Very quickly, they became best friends, but gradually Jonie realized she was developing romantic feelings for Will. She struggled to keep them hidden, but by the end of the school year, she decided to risk it and ask Will to prom.
Before she could ask her, however, Jonie caught Will kissing their classmate Brady Simon. Jonie was crushed, but continued to be best friends with Will and kept her feelings a secret.
After high school, the two went their separate ways. Will continued dating Brady, a relationship that gradually became more and more of a prison. They had two daughters together, and Will found it harder and harder to leave. When she caught Brady cheating on her, she found her chance. Meanwhile, Jonie found herself married to a man named Stefan. They were great friends, and had a son together, but when he was a year old Jonie realized she couldn’t keep herself in the closet any longer and the marriage fell apart. The two remained on good terms. Will and Jonie reconnected and supported each other through these massive life upheavals and soon realized they had feelings for one another. They started dating and were married the next year. They are adjusting to their large blended family and have just adopted a son together.
