Rather to my surprise, I like it. I'd expect myself to go for something more austere and less decorative!
I prefer it to Diana, for instance, because the only Cynthia I know went by Cindy as a child, and I much prefer that to Di. And I don't think of it as dated, because it was never popular enough to be linked to a specific period.

In the US, Cynthia was popular from the 1940s to the 1970s, was in the top ten from 1954 through 1965, and has currently fallen to #636, so here it's quite dated.
