Over on the Facts board, Cleveland Kent Evans has just pointed out that Hallie (which I love but wouldn't use) used to be a nickname for Harriet. I never used to like Harriet all that much, but that's totally changed the way I feel about it.

So, WDYT of Harriet?
WDYT of Hallie as an occasional nickname for a girl named Harriet?
Do you think Harriet is usable these days?
Do you think it would go with my other 'one day child' names (Jean Meredith, Daniel Rowan, Evelyn Joy "Evie")?

Not really...it sounds so harsh and reminds me of hair nets. Sorry!

I like the name Harriet. In fact, I remember wishing it was my name when I saw Harriet the Spy. It seems very quirky and cute.

I prefer Harriet over Hallie, and either way, I definitely think it is usable now. I think Harriet, Jean, Daniel, Evelyn "Evie" would be a great sibset.

I love the name Harriet. I have it on my list of names that I would consider using. I think Harriet is usable these days precisely because no one else thinks it is, lol.

As for Hallie as a nickname for Harriet... Ew. I dislike Hallie whether a nickname for Harriet or not. If I was to give a little Harriet of mine a nickname, it would be Hattie/Hatty or Hetty.

I think Harriet would blend in perfectly with Jean Meredith, Daniel Rowan and Evelyn Joy. :)

I really like it. It's still in the top 100 in England so it's perfectly usable where I am. I don't see why it couldn't be usable in Australia either though. Hallie is a sweet nickname but I much prefer Hattie. I think it goes great with your other names.

I wouldn't mind it if it didn't keep making me think of Harriet Olson from "Little house on the Prarie" and her rascally daughter Nellie. Also, it may be uncontrolably shortened to Harry, which isn't a favourite of mine.

I like Harriet! :) I never thought of Hallie as nn for it, but it's definitely a possibility, I think. Personally, I love it with the nn Hattie. Yes, I do think it's usable today. You might get a few "oh, that's so old sounding" comments at first, but with more Sadies, Isaacs and now Moseses (the plural of Moses, lol) running around, Harriet isn't all that far-fetched. And I think Harriet finishes off your sibset quite nicely. :)

I love Harriet! I prefer the nn Hattie (I think it's adorable), but Hallie works just as well. Harriet goes very well with your other choices, IMO.

I really like Harriet and have ever since I was introduced to Harriet M. Welsch. :) (That would be back when I was 8 or so, I think, and it's still one of my favourites.) The name is sharp, just like her, and it transfers from Gibson Girl do's to dirty jeans remarkably well.

I think Hallie would be an interesting nickname, but I prefer Harriet without a nickname--since that's how Harriet the Spy was. Retta, Etta, and Hattie are all right, too.

Array (the spy? Nah--she'd be more of a Winston type, with too many cats and empty birdcages.)

You might even provide a Heaven for them. We need You for that. Hell we can make for ourselves.

I have actually always kind of liked Harriet...not a favourite but I would love to meet a little Harriet! To me it is unusual and different, strong yet cute. I also think Hallie is a gorgeous nickname! Another nn I think is kind of cute is Hattie.
I think it would fit in perfectly with your other 'one day children's names which all seem to be what I would call quirky classics :)
