I've got a copy of the 7th edition of the Guinness Book of Names, by the wonderful Leslie Dunkling. In the section headed First Name Fashions, he gives the top fifty first names for boys and for girls in England and Wales in 1700, 1800, 1850, 1875, 1900, 1925, 1935, 1950, 1965, 1975, 1985 and 1995; ditto for American names, but these start in 1875 and Australia only has 1950, 1975 and 1995.Mine is a well-thumbed copy! I don't know how many subsequent editions there have been, if any, but you should be able to track down the info and probably even a copy (you're pretty far away from Hay-on-Wye, I think). Happy hunting!
