Note: After 10 years, I decided to roll for every 3 years instead of a single year to age things up a bit quicker. It turned out that after 10 years one part of the family had quite a number of kids already – with a few under age 4 - so I thought it would be realistic (the name of the game!) for them to put the brakes on the babies for a bit. ;)
Year 0
Location: Hong Kong
DH [24]: Taneli Sisu Mustonen (Finnish, with straight blonde hair and blue eyes – Nordic folk rock band singer)
DW [24]: Ingrid Lucia Beck (Norwegian, with curly red hair and grey eyes – Nordic folk rock band fiddler/vocalist)
Taneli and Ingrid met at university in Oslo, Norway where they they discovered they both had musical aspirations and wanted to work in the performing arts. Thus, they formed a Nordic folk rock band, dated, and got married. Taneli is the lead singer and Ingrid plays the hardingfele, a Norwegian fiddle, and does backup vocals. They are now traveling with their band in Hong Kong and like it a lot (and have a surprisingly good audience there), so they have decided to stay a while.
Year 1

Birth event: Taneli and Ingrid have started trying for a baby, but nothing has happened yet.
Other event: Family - Taneli had a minor scrape with the law, however, when he had a little too much to drink and stumbled into someone causing a brief altercation which got both men brought to jail. Ingrid, none too pleased, came to pick him up and they paid the fee he incurred.

Birth event: Taneli and Ingrid have had a son! Akseli (aka Aksel) is the spitting image of his father, with straight blonde hair and blue eyes.
Other event: Family - The family has received the shocking news that Ingrid’s father passed away from a heart attack shortly before Aksel was born. Due to the new baby and the distance they would have to travel - and the expense - they were not able to attend his funeral, but are going to try to visit Norway as soon as they can. They gave Akseli her father’s name, Gabriel, for his middle name. They’re heartbroken that he wasn’t able to meet his grandson.

Other event: Career – Taneli has decided to go back to school for business which should take about two years if he goes full time. Being in Hong Kong he’s seen the opportunities in that sector, and with it not being as easy to travel around with the band because they have the baby, they decided that it might be a good time to explore other income sources for the future. Ingrid is still playing with the band when she can, though they’re considering breaking up since Taneli is their main vocalist.

Birth event: The couple had another boy, Henrik. He also has his father’s straight, blonde hair, but has his mom’s grey eyes.
Other event: Family – Unfortunately, the joy of Henrik’s birth was shortly followed by Taneli and Ingrid’s divorce. The couple was growing apart, with Taneli being so busy with his studies and the financial strain that put on things, as well as Ingrid’s depression after her father’s death and the waning of the band’s activity all taking its toll on their relationship. By the time Henri arrived they had separated, though Taneli stayed close by to help out with the children. She’s planning to move back to Norway and he’s considering moving back as well, but isn’t sure yet.
Year 6

Other events:
Random (Taneli) – A tsunami hit Hong Kong! Taneli, who just graduated from business school and has started as Business Consultant at a local corporation, rushed from the office to check on his ex-wife Ingrid and their kids. They were able to travel to a safe location until the waters receded.
Career (Ingrid) – Ingrid has had to cut back on her activity with the band, resulting of course in a cut to her pay. Their popularity has dwindled since Taneli left the group and now that she has two children she can’t invest as must time in it either. Thankfully, Taneli is able to help the family out since he got his new job at the company. She’s stayed in Hong Kong for the time being so he can be near his children and because he’s helping them out financially as well, although her parents wish she would move back home.
Note: I rolled for any new relationships – heads=new relationship and tails=no relationship (I’ll do this every year until they’re both in a new one unless I roll for a formal event and it says they remarry)

Family (Taneli) – Taneli got remarried to a woman he met through work. She’s Japanese and is also a business consultant throughout Japan, Hong Kong and China.
Career (Ingrid) – Ingrid’s band hours have cut down even further. She’s now just playing by herself at local bars occasionally when she really needs a break from the kids at home. Ingrid did, however, meet a cute Kiwi firefighter on holiday from New Zealand at the bar she was playing at and they started dating.
Note: I rolled for a relationship for Ingrid since she didn’t get an Event for it and got heads=relationship. I used the generator for both of their SO’s home countries and names and chose their looks myself.

Birth events: Ingrid and Petera had a son! He takes after his mom (she thinks it’s about time), and has her curly, red hair and grey eyes. They gave him a Maori middle name to honor that part of Petera’s heritage. Baby Gus is cheerful, and the family’s so happy.
Other events:
Family (Taneli) – Sadly, Taneli’s second marriage was a brief one. They realized that a work relationship with so much travel involved wasn’t the best idea and they had perhaps rushed things so they parted amicably. Akari has since moved back to Japan.
Family (Ingrid) – Ingrid got remarried! She and Petera traveled with the kids to Norway so he could meet her family, and they tied the knot there just in time for their son August to be born. They then moved to his home in New Zealand. Ingrid and the boys are excited to be moving to a new country. She’s hopeful that her folk music will be popular there and that, as the kids get older and she has more time, she can grow her career back up.
Note: I decided to move Ingrid to Petera’s home country since I couldn’t think of a reason he’d stay there after holiday and wanted a bit of a location change for her. ;)

Birth events: Ingrid discovered she was pregnant just three months after having Gus! The Beck-McKinneys have just had another boy, Nikau, who this time takes after his father all the way with his wavy, dark blonde hair and hazel eyes.
Other events:
Career (Taneli) – Taneli was asked to stay on at a company he has consulted frequently with, so now has a new job within his career field as a corporate Project Manager. While this takes away some of the freedom of working for himself, it also came with a big pay raise so he is happy about that. He has not entered into another relationship yet.
Family (Ingrid) – Ingrid and Petera received some shocking, bad news, which unfortunately seems to be a trend when they have good baby news. Petera’s father has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Thankfully, they live nearby and can offer support to his parents.

Birth events: No babies yet for Taneli and Yeong-Ja, though they’ve decided to let things happen if they will. In New Zealand, however, something must be in the water because another surprise baby has come for Ingrid and Petera. They’re exhausted but happy, and overjoyed that they have had a girl (so they decided to give her the Maori middle name meaning “girl” to celebrate it)! Ellinor (named after Ingrid’s grandmother) has mom’s curly hair, though it’s a dirty blonde like Petera’s, and she has his hazel eyes.
Other events:
Family (Taneli) – Taneli just got remarried again, this time to an engineer he met not, surprisingly, at work, but at a karaoke bar. Yeong-Ja is South Korean, works in Hong Kong as well, and fell first for Taneli’s smile and lovely singing voice and then for the rest after they kept seeing each other. She loves children, and they are eager to grow their family together.
Career (Ingrid) – Petera got a promotion! He’s now Station Officer (equivalent to a Lieutenant in the U.S.) for his town’s station, which brings more training responsibilities and means he is in charge when the Senior Station Officer is away.
Year 13 – here starts the every 3 years rolling instead of every 1. Since I was skipping years, I rolled d12 first to see if there would be more than one birth/adoption event or not. Even=roll 1x for birth event and Odd=roll 3x, one for each of the 3 years. If only 1 roll for a birth, I rolled d3 to determine which year they were born (3=2 yr old, 2=1 yr old, 1=newborn). Also, I decided to roll just 1x for Other events for each family group for the 3 year span.

Birth events: Taneli and Yeong-Ja have had three kids! Two boys followed by a newborn girl. They decided not to use middle names since Korean names are often two-part names, and they decided to try to give the kids names that could work (or be adapted) for Finland or Korea in case folks in either country (or Hong Kong) have trouble pronouncing either of them. So their “nicknames” are really their “alternate” or “second” names.
Ingrid and Petera have halted their baby-making for the time being, but the kids are happy that their dad and stepmom have some siblings to play with now when they visit.
Other events:
Family (Taneli) – Taneli and Yeong-Ja took a holiday to Costa Rica.
Career (Ingrid) – Petera got a raise at the fire station.

Birth events: Taneli and Yeong-Ja had another daughter. She only has “one” name, since it’s easy to pronounce in Finnish as well, though Taneli sometimes calls her Lilli as a pet name since Nari means “lily” in Korean.
Ingrid and Petera decided to “see what happened” for a little while in the baby department and got more than they bargained for: fraternal twin girls! Thus, Mere and Marte join the family.
Other events:
Career (Taneli) – Yeong-Ja has had her hours cut back now that she’s had a new baby and still has three other children under age six. She’s happier being home with them more instead of having them with a nanny all of the time.
Family (Ingrid) – The Beck Family in Norway had a family reunion this year. The whole Beck-McKinney clan traveled there and everyone gushed over the twins. Ingrid had a great time seeing her family.

Birth events: The Mustonen-Tanakas have not had any kids since Nari, but gained custody of Su-Jin’s son, Si-Woo (see below events). The Beck-McKinneys have continued to be fertile! They have had two more sons and a third daughter.

Family (Taneli) – The Mustonen-Tanaka family received some tragic news. Yeong-Ja’s younger sister Su-Jin, a single mother, died at age 34 four months after being diagnosed with a progressive cancer. Yeong-Ja and Taneli have taken her four-year-old son in to live with them.
Career (Ingrid) – Ingrid has embarked on a new musical career! After years playing music on the side of homemaking, she has been asked to be a part-time professor of music at the local community college. She’s excited to be teaching others about the history and culture of Folk music and teaching fiddle lessons.

Birth events: Taneli and Yeong-Ja haven’t had any more kids and aren’t planning to at this point. Si-Woo gets along great with his “adopted” cousin-siblings though it’s been a rough transition for him at times adjusting to life without his mother and as an only child of a single parent to living in another country with four siblings and two step-parents.
Ingrid and Petera had another daughter, Tessa. They now have six sons (two of which are from her marriage to Taneli) and five daughters. They love their big, happy brood, but Ingrid did make an appointment for Petera at the doctor’s last year and he dutifully went in to have the procedure to make sure she’s the last baby of the bunch. Who knows, with Akseli going into college soon, maybe they’ll get a grandchild in due course.
Other events:
Random (Taneli) – Yeong-Ja achieved a long-standing ambition of hers to learn another language. She has now added Finnish to her repertoire of Korean, Chinese, and quite passable Japanese and German.
Family (Ingrid) – Petera’s father finally passed away after his long years with Parkinson’s disease. He and his mother are grieving, but he’s glad that some weight will be lifted from his mother now.

Career (Taneli) – Yeong-Ja’s success at learning Finnish inspired her so much that she decided to leave the engineering field and has become a linguistics teacher. She’s enjoying the slower-paced nature of her new career and meeting students of all ages from all different places.
Random (Ingrid) – Ingrid won the lottery! She entered an office pool and her payout was 20,000. They figured that wouldn’t go very far toward the kids’ university fund, so she and Petera and leaving them with various family and friends and going on a month-long cruise throughout Europe ending in Scandinavia where they’ll visit her family in Norway before heading back. They’ll save the rest of the money in their emergency fund.
Gen 2 Events: Akseli, the oldest of all of the children is married! Kurshid is from Pakistan originally; she immigrated with her parents to New Zealand ten years ago. The couple met in their first year of university in NZ, where they still live, and got married the next year. Surprising everyone, they got pregnant with triplets! (Well, Aksel does have one set of fraternal twin sisters, so they figured it must be from Ingrid’s side of the family after all – no one was sure since Mere and Marte were such an anomaly). They have had two sons and a daughter. They wanted their names to reflect their multi-cultural heritage, so they each have a Finnish name (Laila is used in all three cultures so was a natural choice), Pakistani name, and then Norwegian name. They chose first names that have poetic, literary associations; each boy has a name honoring a parent: Zahid and Jabril after mom and dad’s middle name, and Kiran has been one of Kurshid’s favorite names since childhood; and they chose Norwegian names that have some sort of nature connection: Vanamo is Finnish meaning “twinflower” which they thought was extremely applicable since they got surprise-multiples!
Note: I rolled for countries and careers for Akseli and his wife. Funnily enough one of the options I rolled was New Zealand, so I decided to have them still live there. :)

Other event: Family – Unfortunately, the joy of Henrik’s birth was shortly followed by Taneli and Ingrid’s divorce. The couple was growing apart, with Taneli being so busy with his studies and the financial strain that put on things, as well as Ingrid’s depression after her father’s death and the waning of the band’s activity all taking its toll on their relationship. By the time Henri arrived they had separated, though Taneli stayed close by to help out with the children. She’s planning to move back to Norway and he’s considering moving back as well, but isn’t sure yet.

Random (Taneli) – A tsunami hit Hong Kong! Taneli, who just graduated from business school and has started as Business Consultant at a local corporation, rushed from the office to check on his ex-wife Ingrid and their kids. They were able to travel to a safe location until the waters receded.
Career (Ingrid) – Ingrid has had to cut back on her activity with the band, resulting of course in a cut to her pay. Their popularity has dwindled since Taneli left the group and now that she has two children she can’t invest as must time in it either. Thankfully, Taneli is able to help the family out since he got his new job at the company. She’s stayed in Hong Kong for the time being so he can be near his children and because he’s helping them out financially as well, although her parents wish she would move back home.

Family (Taneli) – Taneli got remarried to a woman he met through work. She’s Japanese and is also a business consultant throughout Japan, Hong Kong and China.
Career (Ingrid) – Ingrid’s band hours have cut down even further. She’s now just playing by herself at local bars occasionally when she really needs a break from the kids at home. Ingrid did, however, meet a cute Kiwi firefighter on holiday from New Zealand at the bar she was playing at and they started dating.

Birth events: Ingrid and Petera had a son! He takes after his mom (she thinks it’s about time), and has her curly, red hair and grey eyes. They gave him a Maori middle name to honor that part of Petera’s heritage. Baby Gus is cheerful, and the family’s so happy.

Family (Taneli) – Sadly, Taneli’s second marriage was a brief one. They realized that a work relationship with so much travel involved wasn’t the best idea and they had perhaps rushed things so they parted amicably. Akari has since moved back to Japan.
Family (Ingrid) – Ingrid got remarried! She and Petera traveled with the kids to Norway so he could meet her family, and they tied the knot there just in time for their son August to be born. They then moved to his home in New Zealand. Ingrid and the boys are excited to be moving to a new country. She’s hopeful that her folk music will be popular there and that, as the kids get older and she has more time, she can grow her career back up.
Note: I decided to move Ingrid to Petera’s home country since I couldn’t think of a reason he’d stay there after holiday and wanted a bit of a location change for her. ;)

Career (Taneli) – Taneli was asked to stay on at a company he has consulted frequently with, so now has a new job within his career field as a corporate Project Manager. While this takes away some of the freedom of working for himself, it also came with a big pay raise so he is happy about that. He has not entered into another relationship yet.
Family (Ingrid) – Ingrid and Petera received some shocking, bad news, which unfortunately seems to be a trend when they have good baby news. Petera’s father has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Thankfully, they live nearby and can offer support to his parents.

Birth events: No babies yet for Taneli and Yeong-Ja, though they’ve decided to let things happen if they will. In New Zealand, however, something must be in the water because another surprise baby has come for Ingrid and Petera. They’re exhausted but happy, and overjoyed that they have had a girl (so they decided to give her the Maori middle name meaning “girl” to celebrate it)! Ellinor (named after Ingrid’s grandmother) has mom’s curly hair, though it’s a dirty blonde like Petera’s, and she has his hazel eyes.

Family (Taneli) – Taneli just got remarried again, this time to an engineer he met not, surprisingly, at work, but at a karaoke bar. Yeong-Ja is South Korean, works in Hong Kong as well, and fell first for Taneli’s smile and lovely singing voice and then for the rest after they kept seeing each other. She loves children, and they are eager to grow their family together.
Career (Ingrid) – Petera got a promotion! He’s now Station Officer (equivalent to a Lieutenant in the U.S.) for his town’s station, which brings more training responsibilities and means he is in charge when the Senior Station Officer is away.
Year 13 – here starts the every 3 years rolling instead of every 1. Since I was skipping years, I rolled d12 first to see if there would be more than one birth/adoption event or not. Even=roll 1x for birth event and Odd=roll 3x, one for each of the 3 years. If only 1 roll for a birth, I rolled d3 to determine which year they were born (3=2 yr old, 2=1 yr old, 1=newborn). Also, I decided to roll just 1x for Other events for each family group for the 3 year span.

Birth events: Taneli and Yeong-Ja have had three kids! Two boys followed by a newborn girl. They decided not to use middle names since Korean names are often two-part names, and they decided to try to give the kids names that could work (or be adapted) for Finland or Korea in case folks in either country (or Hong Kong) have trouble pronouncing either of them. So their “nicknames” are really their “alternate” or “second” names.
Ingrid and Petera have halted their baby-making for the time being, but the kids are happy that their dad and stepmom have some siblings to play with now when they visit.

Birth events: Taneli and Yeong-Ja had another daughter. She only has “one” name, since it’s easy to pronounce in Finnish as well, though Taneli sometimes calls her Lilli as a pet name since Nari means “lily” in Korean.
Ingrid and Petera decided to “see what happened” for a little while in the baby department and got more than they bargained for: fraternal twin girls! Thus, Mere and Marte join the family.
Other events:
Career (Taneli) – Yeong-Ja has had her hours cut back now that she’s had a new baby and still has three other children under age six. She’s happier being home with them more instead of having them with a nanny all of the time.
Family (Ingrid) – The Beck Family in Norway had a family reunion this year. The whole Beck-McKinney clan traveled there and everyone gushed over the twins. Ingrid had a great time seeing her family.

Birth events: The Mustonen-Tanakas have not had any kids since Nari, but gained custody of Su-Jin’s son, Si-Woo (see below events). The Beck-McKinneys have continued to be fertile! They have had two more sons and a third daughter.

Family (Taneli) – The Mustonen-Tanaka family received some tragic news. Yeong-Ja’s younger sister Su-Jin, a single mother, died at age 34 four months after being diagnosed with a progressive cancer. Yeong-Ja and Taneli have taken her four-year-old son in to live with them.
Career (Ingrid) – Ingrid has embarked on a new musical career! After years playing music on the side of homemaking, she has been asked to be a part-time professor of music at the local community college. She’s excited to be teaching others about the history and culture of Folk music and teaching fiddle lessons.

Birth events: Taneli and Yeong-Ja haven’t had any more kids and aren’t planning to at this point. Si-Woo gets along great with his “adopted” cousin-siblings though it’s been a rough transition for him at times adjusting to life without his mother and as an only child of a single parent to living in another country with four siblings and two step-parents.
Ingrid and Petera had another daughter, Tessa. They now have six sons (two of which are from her marriage to Taneli) and five daughters. They love their big, happy brood, but Ingrid did make an appointment for Petera at the doctor’s last year and he dutifully went in to have the procedure to make sure she’s the last baby of the bunch. Who knows, with Akseli going into college soon, maybe they’ll get a grandchild in due course.
Other events:
Random (Taneli) – Yeong-Ja achieved a long-standing ambition of hers to learn another language. She has now added Finnish to her repertoire of Korean, Chinese, and quite passable Japanese and German.
Family (Ingrid) – Petera’s father finally passed away after his long years with Parkinson’s disease. He and his mother are grieving, but he’s glad that some weight will be lifted from his mother now.

Career (Taneli) – Yeong-Ja’s success at learning Finnish inspired her so much that she decided to leave the engineering field and has become a linguistics teacher. She’s enjoying the slower-paced nature of her new career and meeting students of all ages from all different places.
Random (Ingrid) – Ingrid won the lottery! She entered an office pool and her payout was 20,000. They figured that wouldn’t go very far toward the kids’ university fund, so she and Petera and leaving them with various family and friends and going on a month-long cruise throughout Europe ending in Scandinavia where they’ll visit her family in Norway before heading back. They’ll save the rest of the money in their emergency fund.
Gen 2 Events: Akseli, the oldest of all of the children is married! Kurshid is from Pakistan originally; she immigrated with her parents to New Zealand ten years ago. The couple met in their first year of university in NZ, where they still live, and got married the next year. Surprising everyone, they got pregnant with triplets! (Well, Aksel does have one set of fraternal twin sisters, so they figured it must be from Ingrid’s side of the family after all – no one was sure since Mere and Marte were such an anomaly). They have had two sons and a daughter. They wanted their names to reflect their multi-cultural heritage, so they each have a Finnish name (Laila is used in all three cultures so was a natural choice), Pakistani name, and then Norwegian name. They chose first names that have poetic, literary associations; each boy has a name honoring a parent: Zahid and Jabril after mom and dad’s middle name, and Kiran has been one of Kurshid’s favorite names since childhood; and they chose Norwegian names that have some sort of nature connection: Vanamo is Finnish meaning “twinflower” which they thought was extremely applicable since they got surprise-multiples!
Note: I rolled for countries and careers for Akseli and his wife. Funnily enough one of the options I rolled was New Zealand, so I decided to have them still live there. :)
