Matteo has been semi-popular recently in several countries. None of the younger Matteo "Teo"s I've met or heard about were Italian.
...so if you love it, I don't think that's a barrier, at least objectively. Or not much more so than Theodore being Greek would be.

I think to me as I'v heard Theodore/Theo on a lot of kids. I know a lot of names get used out of countries however it's not something I feel comfortable doing. I am considering using Matthew nn Teo.
