I know the people in the Dark Ages were hopeless at etymology, but Viatrix -> Beatrix is too much of a stretch to fit into my mind. Makes 'canis, a non canendo' look positively sane! If I could fathom two sound changes - V, or actually W to B and i to e - I'd be happier, but I can't make it work, and so I choose to ignore the whole idea. Call me a Philistine.
