I have always liked Marit. I haven't seen the spelling Maret, but it's lovely to me. It has all the good qualities of Margaret without the "gar" - which I always thought was its most unpleasant sound.

Not a favourite. I much prefer Merete.

I like it. I think it's very pretty. I've known several girls/women named Merritt, but never Maret.

Eta: looked and now I see the pronunciation isn't the same. I like the Mair-it pronunciation much more than Mahr-it, so maybe I don't like Maret that much after all.
